(F30) P0456: Evaporative Emissions System Small Leak Detected
I have a 2016 BMW 328ix SULEV, mileage is 69150, and yesterday the CEL was on for the first time and upon checking using OBD2 adapter i got "P0456: Evaporative Emissions System Small Leak Detected"
I know that BMW has an extended warranty for it and i have the letter same as https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...46989-9999.pdf The problem is i live in OK which is not the eligible state listed in the letter, does that mean im shit outta luck? Has anyone been able to use the warranty while not living/registering the car in a state that isnt mentioned in the letter? I feel like its such a bs rule that only cars registered are getting better treatment. Thanks |

That warranty extension applies to N20, not N26. There should be a separate extension for N26, as the N20 and N26 both use the same part. It should be covered in all states. BTW, I had the same error code. In my case the cause was a wire chewed by a mouse.

Evaporative emissions system small leak detected P0456
How did you find the wire? I have the code P0456 and have been looking for that leak for some time. I noticed mouse droppings on the top of my engine area.

I traced it from where it plugs in on the module. I had to remove the right rear wheel liner, which revealed not only where the wire was chewed but also the nest of the little bastard that chewed it, up near the tank filler where a bunch of wires make their way into the battery compartment. I put a mouse trap in my garage the next day, I catch one every few weeks.

Thank you for your reply. I have done almost everything looking for the evap leak, but never considered the wiring until I read your response(s) in this post. I will most definitely check that next. Thanks again

I assumed it was the module, as it was on a warranty service list. I changed it, didn't work. Looking at the code explanations at https://bmwfault.codes/ I saw that one of the possible causes was no connection between the module and the DME, so that's what led me to trace the wiring.
