I placed my order today. The dealer already had a car sitting in 112 so he changed the build to what I wanted. It will be a MY13, so I don't expect a production date any time soon.
12 Jun 12 Ordered
12 Jun 12 Status 112
27 Jun 12 Production Started, estimated completion 5 July 12
6 Jul 12 Production compete, waiting for carrier...

I got my VID # and was surprised to find that my vehicle is a SA build. Antone know what port they usually come out of? Durbin?

Were you expecting production to start this week?

I was expecting production to begin next week (week of June 18th) so I was pleasantly surprised with the early start.

This good news. My car is scheduled for production the week of June 18th too. Perhaps mine will get done early as well.

A German build was out another two months. The car sat in Durban, South Africa for a couple weeks and shipped on May 21st on the Grand Orion.

It is supposed to arrive in the port of Charlotte, SC on June 25th and then at the performance school (where I am picking it up) on the June 26th. Looking at the shipping schedule for the Grand Orion, it doesn't go to Charlotte, so I am assuming it is going to change ships in Bremerhaven to a WWL ship that does go to Charlotte. Looking at WWL schedules, no ships arrive on in Charlotte on the 25th of June, but two do arrive on the 7th and 10th of July. So that is when I am assuming my car makes landfall in the US.

Assuming it takes them a week (or more) to get it ready and time slot for me to pick it up, it is going to be 4 months plus from when I ordered the car to when I actually get it. A far cry from my last BMW that was only 8 weeks from order to pick-up.

At least I am still driving a BMW while I wait.

Phil
Your dealer didn't have an allocation but took your order anyway.
That's a crappy thing to do to a customer.
IOW, you "ordered" your car from the dealer, but your dealer didn't actually order it from BMW because he couldn't due to not having allocation. He should have told you that before taking your order.
He likely took your order to keep the sale and then hoped he could get an allocation.
That deserves a couple of freebies like a free nice set of all weather mats and a trunk mat, or something else you can think of.

I've read on here that the dealer can specify where the car is to be built.
I directly asked my CA if that is true and if he can tell BMW where to make the car. He said BMW dealers don't have control over that.
I don't know where that indication is on the order screen because we didn't see it as an option anywhere.
Now, it's possible that my CA doesn't know where to find that option, but he's been selling BMW's for over 20 years.

So, anyone else know for sure that the dealer can request the plant location? If so, did you see it anywhere on the order screen?

According to BMW's information on 2013 F30's, production begins
July 1st in Germany, and starts in S. Africa on July 15th.
There is no indication of an option to select factory location.

If that's the case, then why not switch to a 2013?
If your dealer has an allocation for a 2013, then it will go straight into BMW's system right there as you order your options. You'll see a confirmation that BMW has accepted the order. It's the only way to make sure that you are actually ordering from BMW and not just putting in an order with your dealer. There is a difference.
2013 orders will start building July 1st with delivery expected by early to mid September. Some may even come late August, but that depends on getting the car from the factory to the shipyard and then onto a transport.

As you've read that part of the process can take some time, just depends on the timing from leaving factory to getting to yard to getting on a ship.

If you're buying instead of leasing, then there is benefit to getting a 2013 as it will have a higher resale later. If you're leasing then it really doesn't matter as you already know the residual, and right now they're pretty good.

Don't think the dealer can specify where production will take place, but when he gave me the Vehicle Inquiry Report, the model showed 133Q 335i Sedan. The 133Q indicated a German build.

So - Ordered March 21, began production April 26, completed May 19.

The dealer said three to nine days to get on a ship and a ten to fifteen day shipping transit, two to three days to deliver to the dealer, and one to four days at the dealers - soonest I get it is June 4, more realistic is the week of June 18 - in about a month!

Imperial Blue 335i Sport Line.
Sport automatic transmission with shift paddles
Fold down rear seats
Brushed Aluminum trim
BMW Assist including Mobile Office and Bluetooth audio functionality
BMW Apps

So now it's June 8 and my car is still waiting to get put on a ship. This is getting frustrating!

Looking at the WW shipping, next ship leaving Durban is the Bess on June 14, arriving Bremerhaven July 5, shifting to the Talisman July 10 and arriving Galveston July 30. 18 weeks from my 21 March order date. The next MOL ship leaving Durban is the Genuine Ace on Jun 16 which will arrive Bremerhaven 11 July and Baltimore 23 July and Jacksonville, FL 26 July - which would be about the same with road transport to Houston, end of July. 18 weeks from order date. Original ETA from the CA was week of May 14! Only 8 weeks off!
i hope I'm on the W&W Bess leaving Durban today, June 14, arriving Zeebrugge July 3, transferring to the W&W Asian King, leaving Zeebrugge July 5 and arriving Galveston July 18. That will be 17 weeks from order date and 12 weeks from production start date.

Ordered my car in the last week of March. Heard nothing but wierd excuses why my car wasn't being built...resin plant explosion, summer Olympics, changing plant over, etc. Then I received an email saying week 21 estimated build. Yesterday (week 22 or 23) my car is finally getting built! SA build. I can't wait to see her someday. What do you think - end of July?

On order: MG 335i sport w/m-adaptive susp and a bunch of options.

If your vehicle is being shipped by W&W, you can verify if it made it on the ship:

My CA asked me if I wanted a German or SA build. His advice was to select German, so I did.

That's what I'm being told too.

I didn't catch any codes like yours. The VIN will show the plant as well.

Interesting.

If you would, and can, ask him how he specified that build plant or country?
Is it on the order screen? If I can get that information I can take it to my CA.
As I said, I didn't see it on the order screen, and CA and sales manager both said they can't specify that.
But, if it's really doable and an option I want to know how it's done so we can take a look. I too would like a German built German car.

Sounds like you got an early July production, especially if it's already 112.

That means you should be (hopefully) in production earliest Week 27 (first week of July), perhaps Week 28 or Week 29, but almost certain it'll be sometime early July.

They actually started building yesterday, so its gonna be 2012 model. I am leasing it but will buy out at the end since it is build to exactly my specifications and colors. Was thinking BMW select but did not make financial sense to me. Thanks for the recommendation though.
