2012 BMW 335i M Sport vs. 2012 Audi S4
Hello People,
I'm absolutely amazed by the input of everyone on this forum; it's great to see so many answers and so many people willing to help. I have a question and hoping to get some answers... I am in the market looking to buy a new Bimmer and exploring the F30 big time. Up until today, I had decided to go for the BMW; only question was should I go for the 328i or the 335i M Sport? I came across another forum where they were comparing the new redesigned 2012 Audi S4 to the 2013 335i M Sport. I was surprised to find out that the new S4 has 333hp compared to the 300hp for the 335i M Sport (plz correct me if I'm wrong). I am definitely biased towards the BMW but want to hear what other BMW loyalists think. I have researched and absolutely love the new 335i M Sport and decided to wait for it and get a good deal towards October/November this year when I can finally buy one. But what about the S4? Would the S4 be a slightly better option? Better design? Better interior feel? Please help me make a decision by telling me which one you would prefer an WHY (definitely want to hear a reason)... Thanks again guys for your valuable input!!!

S4 was really pitched more against to outgoing M3 in terms of pricing, performance and presence. It is a heavy car but that supercharged six has gobs of grunt and the everyday practicality of quattro is impossible to deny. As far as I'm concerned the S4 has it all over the 335i if the price is similar. Better interior, quattro, and the cachet that comes from the "S" badge. Not as coveted as "M" of course, but special nonetheless. That said, you can get a cheap 335i for much less than any S4 so now that is a different story. I'd probably take a $42,000 335i over a $48,000 S4 myself. Then again, I pay cash for cars and don't know how to work half the shit in them so you can see where my priorities lie. Drive them both and decide which you like the best.

My friend has an S4 and absolutely loves it. I haven't got a chance to
drive it yet, but it looks great and the interior nice. Sound system is great as well. With that said, I went with a 335i. I just love the feel of BMW and the look of the new 3 series with upgraded tech. The N55 has been around or a while now without any major issue. I recommend test driving them both to see how you feel. The lease deals are better with BMW rather than Audi, just an FYI. The support on these boards is also a plus. |

Special thanks to Combat Ninja and Jzcrna for your informative and unbiased reply. Thank you guys!
However in Canada the S4, fully loaded is priced at 62K whereas I'm predicting something similar for the 335i M Sport, so price wise they both are the same. It's just about performance and interior feel. I've test driven the S4 but not the 335i and I have to say from what I see, the interior of the Audi doesn't really 'impress' me but the engine was awesome; pretty loud and obviously fast. At this moment, I would prefer to go for the interior of the F30. Plus I've been a BMW customer for a few years now and absolutely love their cars. When I come to exterior styling/looks, the S4 does not fall behind at all. It looks awesome! The BMW may be slightly aggressive but the front grill of the S4, is really cool. I also like the curves and their LED lighting. Which looks very impressive. I don't know why BMW left out the LED's and went with bulbs??? I'm still confused but something inside me is definitely pushing me to remain with the 335i M Sport. I really like the M Sport package and that too in the Estoril Blue looks amazing!!! Lets see...I'm planning on buying my next car outright or at least putting a large downpayment, so a lease, at this moment, is not a decision factor for me...

Handling was ok; I could feel tons of weight on the steering, so I know what you mean... I'm definitely going to have to test drive the new 335i before coming to a conclusion...I just really adore the new M Sport package.

You can always get a Stage 1 kit later down the line if you feel the power is adequate. I think 335i feels much better than S4 (I have driven both of these for long windy road trips, although 335i was last gen E92), although this is very subjective. Audi interior is much nicer though...especially at night, it looks amazing. I felt like I am in a bloody aircraft cockpit.

Living in Canada doesn't make all-wheel drive a big factor? I would think it would. BMW has certainly closed the gap with the f30 and the design might look 'fresher' but in terms of overall quality the Audi interior is still ahead. No interior that puts the nav screen where the BMW has it could get my vote. IT looks like a cheap afterthought.
Not sure if it matters but you're looking at pretty well-spec'd examples so the nav/infotainment interface might be a decider. I imagine the BMW might have the edge here as the platform is 5 years newer. You really can't go wrong with either car as both have their merits. Consider yourself lucky to have such good choices. |

Call me a BMW loyalist, because some Porsches and Ferraris are too expensive for me.
Go with the 335i. One of the leading german carmags Auto Motor und Sport tested the Sportline 335i A vs a C350. The C350 still is pretty good but the 335i won. 0-100kmh(62mph) did the Benz in 5.5 seconds. The 335i did it in 5.1seconds 0-130kmh(81mph): 8.1 seconds. C350:9.0 seconds. F30 328iA :9.9 seconds. Who said that there's no subsitute for cubic inches LOL. At this point he/she's right. Brakingdistance 100kmh-0(cold) :35.6m (warm): 36.1. The slalom and wedeltest/handling the 335i also is some kmh faster through them than the Benz. At the end of the day ams finds the C350 the 'more cool' car(...) and the 335i the more agile/sporty one, but a bit bland by the looks of it.... |

If you can wait until the end of the year, you'll probably be able to test-drive the real rival of the S4 which will be the (340ps?) M335i, that will be a good deal ahead of the MSport 335i in terms of performance and handling! Well we should ask Scott26 if the M335i will make it over the Atlantic though...

I don't know the price delta between M Sport 335i and S4 but I guess the S4 with its overall sportier treatment (not just an S-Line which is the equivalent of the M Sport) is somewhat higher priced? Logically the M335i should be priced along the same lines as the S4. Last edited by advantage20; 02-27-2012 at 11:50 AM.. |

I just realized that the comparison I made is absolutely incorrect!
I should really be comparing the M335i to the S4. Why was I comparing the M Sport package? Now I would definitely feel that once the M335i or the M340i comes out, the BMW should be the obvious winner. I guess my wait continues......

Because so far the 306ps M Sport 335i is the best BMW has to offer below the hardcore M3, while Audi has the 340ps S4 in between the S-Line V6 and the RS4.
The versions will compete as follows : - regular 335i vs regular A4 V6 (regular car with regular engine) - M Sport 335i vs S-Line A4 V6 (sporty taste to the interior and aero kit, stiffer suspension, but still regular engine) - M335i [yet to come] vs S4 (significantly tweaked suspension and engine, even sportier feel to the interior) - M3 vs RS4 (hardcore "supercars") Last edited by advantage20; 02-27-2012 at 11:48 AM.. |

Sorry I think I got it wrong, Audi had a 3.2FSI but I'm not sure if it still is available...
Anyway the idea is that the real rival to the S4 will be the M335i and not the M Sport 335i. |

Right now the S4 is close to $62K here in Canada; I wonder if the M335i would be similar or more?

So let me get this straight:
There will be a 335i, 335i M Sport, M335i and the obvious M3? Will the styling be similar for the M335i and the M3 or will the M335i be similar to the 335i M Sport? Lots to think about...
