On RWD, Sport+ allows plenty of slip angle and wheelspin. I personally would not drive with DTC off aggressively on the street-I don't see the point. My other car has no DSC-it's up to me 100%. I figure with the F30, I should take advantage of a bit of a safety net if on public roads.

A definite improvement over the AWD in terms of the ability to drive off the rear wheels (of course!) and in that sense I could relate it to my E30. Yes it is bigger and heavier but it didn't feel heavy, bloated, or boatlike. It was satisfying in the sense that the driving position and sport seat felt comfortable and locked in. Steering wheel felt hefty enough though the action was a bit light. Steering response was not as direct as my E30 but better tires, lighter wheels, stiffer springs, and a thicker RSB would help that out. (Perhaps the Dinan Shockware suspension upgrade will be helpful there.) I still would like to see another ~25 hp come out of the engine, and I will wait for Dinan to come out with their Stage 1 for that. All in all I'm satisfied with the car's potential for feeling even better once these mods are added. I plan on joining the first Ultimate Driving Event I can find in my area for 2014 and placing my order shortly after that with the dealership that best meets my price via internet quotes. |

These engines loosen up after some miles and make more power than you feel on a car off the lot. I put down 214whp/250tq on a load bearing Super Flo dyno at the 1200 mile mark. There will be a variety of tunes that will give you 30+whp when you are ready.

What do the 214/250 wheel numbers tell you about what the engine is putting out?

That the engine is underrated, those numbers when converted to the crank are more than the BMW claim of 240/258.

Not planning on buying the X-Drive in any case...335 is too many $$$ for a lot of hp I'm never going to use on the road (I don't track any more). I'll be happy with a 328 rwd with a bit of boost for the hp. I'd rather drive a smaller engine harder than a larger engine softer.

I got that part. I'm wondering if you'd venture a guess at what hp/torque is at the crank based on the dyno whp, or is that not a fair question?

Based on seeing 10-12 dynos, 260-270hp/295-305ft lbs of tq at the crank.

E30 = Sexy
Ronals = made the already sexy E30 sexier E30 + Ronals...Just keep that car and save up some dough for a newer car if you truly need it. Be honest here, how much do you think you can sell your car (minus Ronals)? |

I paid $5K for the car in 2007, and it came with all the mods I've got except for the Z3 short shifter and the two thicker sway bars. I've put another $10K into fixing up a bunch of panels and a lot of much needed mechanical work (heating, AC, driveshaft, alternator, etc.). I couldn't sell it for more than $7-8K tops, I think, including two sets of wheels/tires. (Why would I keep 15" Ronals?) I've got 15" Euroweaves for my winters. Wow! Does BMW typically underrate their engine power by that much? That seems too good to be true, but until I hear something different I'll take your word for it. Before I invest in an engine upgrade I'll wait awhile to see how the engine power matures, as you say. I should know how it 'powers up' by what, say 5K miles? Or more?

Most 325i's range from dirt cheap (500 bucks) to 5k with bottlecaps or regular 14in weaves. Anything above that are basically perfect E30's or crazy sellers. The best way to know is to test drive an F30. That 10k in repairs does hurt and the logical step is to get a new car. The new car will be better (numerically) in almost every way possible but does it suit you? Just like how living in Beverly Hills is the best thing ever but a famer would be happier in a piece of land in the middle of nowhere. |

A couple thousand miles will loosen the engine up.

I drove into a snow bank with my E30 a few years ago, and in order to convince Liberty Mutual that my car was worth more than $2400 (they totaled it) I procured a bunch of sales receipts from Concord Motorsports (NH). He sent me about ten receipts for E30s that had sold for $9-13K. They were mint and low mileage, and/or heavily modded. My car is not mint, but I bet I could get more than $5K for it. BTW, Liberty Mutual ended up giving me $3750 for the totaled car; I kept the car, and had the damage fixed for $2200. I spent the rest on upgrading several body panels. And then I was able to register the car with a normal title, no salvage. Go figure. |

and this guy knows what the hell he is talking about.
I've had the E30 M with 97k miles for 30 years now and the F30 Msport for 2 and none of them are going anywhere any time soon. I know this post is old I figured what the heck. |
