Dyno Question
Call me an alarmist.....but I'm having my car dynoed again on Friday, and I wanted to know how exactly they connect to your car (electronically speaking) when they get readings such as air/fuel, etc, etc. I ask because I have both the MPPK and now the Dinan tune, and I don't want ANYTHING screwing with the electronics of my car now that I have both a flash and piggyback tune working in tandem.
I know tuned cars are dynoed all the time, so I'm sure its a non-issue. But can someone put me at ease regarding the way they hook up to the car electronically to do the pulls? Thanks! |

Depends how they're measuring air fuel. Most dyno shops will just stick a probe in the tailpipe and not connect to the car at all. RPM measurements can either be done under the hood through the coil wires (sorta like the old inductive pickup on the plug wires) or through the OBD2 plug.

Take an hex key or whatever fits the plastic engine cover hold down bolts to loosen it. Inductive pickup needs access to the coil wires.
If an auto its a good plan to block the throttle pedal to prevent kick down. Find out what gear 1:1 is & run the test in that gear. Be sure all the nannies are switched off. Auto run in full sport mode, sport+ with paddle shifting.

Quite a big investment in our N55s. Every time I ask the Dinan specialist just how much horsepower I have, they tell me to just enjoy the car. Not a very precise response. Is it costing you a lot for them to run the evaluation?

Absolutely none. They can't write anything to any computer. Only way you'd lose anything would be if they fried the entire computer, and in that case you have a lot more to worry about than just the tune or Dinantronics.

Yeh I knew that. I'm guessing you were referring to that. But if you have the higher limiter than do it in 6th

I am also interested in the results of the The Nerd's tune. I have a 2014 335i with MPPK and MPE. I'm considering getting the Dinantronics Stage 1 ECU upgrade that should take me up to 364-hp & 430-ft/lb of torque with my MPPK.
But, I talked to a guy at Dinan this morning and he told me that the Dinantronics Stage 2 ECU upgrade for the F30 335i is imminent, like less than a week away. He wouldn't confirm but he said with the right parts we could be looking at 380-hp & 460-ft/lb of torque with MPPK. |
