Seeing as I can't actually find one phone on BMW's compatability page that is 100% functional, I thought it may be useful (for me and others!) to have a quick survey of who has what and what works:

BMW media package: Pro media with regular bluetooth (not extended package)

Phone make: Samsung

Phone model: Galaxy S5

Phonebook contacts sync and work ok?: Kind of. I seem to have a load of phone numbers but no details, and then below that, all the contacts with names, etc.

BMW office apps work?: Yes

Email work?: Kind of. If I go into the gmail account in the office app, I can get to my inbox. Don't get notifications or anything in the car though.

Text messaging work?: No. I can have it read out through the car system and reply via voice control if I put the phone into CAR MODE.

Music streaming & control via iDrive work?: Don't know, not tried it.

Phonebook contacts sync and work ok?: Yep, every time

BMW office apps work?: Nope, just contacts shown, no office.

Text messaging work?: Nope

Music streaming & control via iDrive work?: Yep, perfectly


I can use Siri 'eyes free' from the voice button on the steering wheel, and do most things with that.

Hmm... I can't contribute with any answers as I only just ordered yesterday, but the other contributions here make me wonder whether it was pointless me ordering enhanced Bluetooth.

I was under the impression that full Bluetooth music streaming and library browsing control via iDrive was only possible with enhanced Bluetooth, i.e. in order for it to work as well as it would connecting via USB.

Currently drive a 520d without sat nav. If I connect my iPhone to USB I get full control of the library with album art etc., but Bluetooth steaming is very basic - I have to browse on the phone itself and I can only skip tracks with iDrive and see basic track/album info on screen. I assumed the newer implementations with the pro sat nav I've ordered would be better than what I have currently, even without enhanced Bluetooth, but I thought enhanced Bluetooth was required to get the full works.
