Diesel fuel range on 320d
Well, this is the result which I'm pleased in moderation as i was expecting a better consumption compared to the X5.
I always reset the odometer on each fill (old habit) so 953.3 km on a fuel tank, I might have been able to get to 1000km but since the range was being quite erratic at times showing 70km then you drive on a road with a climb and the range dropped, so wanting not to risk getting stranded, I gave in at 953km. The driving was always on Eco Pro - and since there are so many roundabouts here and hardly any traffic lights, ASS was "off", also the climate setting on Eco Pro was disabled (full power A/C and seat heating). It appears I only got 5.96 L /100km, better than the X5 (Xdrive35) on 9.95L/100km (average) but i was expecting high 4's and or below 5L/100km. So the conclusion is that I'm using 25 to 30L less per fill and gaining around 50 to 100km more range. The app I use is called "Roadtrip" quite handy to keep track of all vehicle expenses. |

Very nice - and you're at around 1900kms. Still "breaking it in" as they say. I had a 320d loaner yesterday for several hours and it was at 1200kms when I started off. It had an average use displayed of 6.5l/100kms.
Looks like a nice app.

Thats not bad - should get better as the engine loosens up. My personel target is always to better the Official combined fuel consumption on my commute - which is about 35km in traffic, and 35km on the motorway.
The main thing infuencing fuel consumption - is momentum - try never to lose it - anticipate what the traffic is doing. It would be interesting to see what your consumption falls to as the engine wears in! I note that as usual the BMW range is quite accurate - it does not look like there is a lot of fat there. Unlike my R1200RT - which once range is 0 - can still go another 100km's.

Very nice fuel economy.
The spec sheet says 57L fuel tank.. so if you're filling up 56.63L there's barely anything left?! I think the tank must have a couple of extra litres reserve or something. |

OMG we have a 57L tank? lucky i didn't get stranded.. I never looked up the spec sheet, just thought it might have been a 60L tank (going for a round figure). Next fill I will engage the climate control on ECO Pro and have ASS "ON" at all times.
I have found lately due to the warmer weather that the ASS will not cut out the engine. |

With the ASS i have found the same thing, will generally only stop for a few minutes in really hot weather then re start again. Interesting.

I'm getting 6.4 l/100 km out of my 320d after 7,500 km with a mix of congested urban (70%) and rural (30%). On 250km + rural trips it is running high 4's. I'm happy with this aspect of the car.

When ever you are in sydney next come for a drive in my 320d. I cant seem to replicate your 2 sec delay throttle response. Wonder if its a software thing that they slap on loaner cars to stop ppl abusing the crap out of it and do burnouts and stuff.

As I stated, once the lag disappeared, the car was terrific and fast. Thanks for the invite. Not sure when I will next visit your fabulous city, but I will keep it in mind.

I've done 7,000kms in my 320d and my average is showing as 5.7L/100kms. Almost all of my driving is city driving - a few weeks back I got up to 5.8L but then I did a trip from Sydney to Kalkite and back (~900kms) and it dropped down to 5.6L, since then it's back up to my normal 5.7L.
On the trip to Kalkite I managed to get a total of just over 1,100kms for the tank.

Did you put more than 57 litres ? That's is an awesome range. I just filled up today and will use nothing but ECO mode with the climate setting "on" plus ASS enabled at all times to see if I do better. Today's fill results were not as good but with the weather I have had the air con running a lot. I got 908 km and 6.42L/100km and the fill was 58.25 litres of diesel (maybe our tanks are slightly bigger than 57)

Speaking for 318d (same mpg as 320d), I can get 4.0 on a good night run (almost no traffic, not highway)
But I average on about 5.3-5.6 depending on how I drive. Usu get 900-1100ish km per tank edit: sorry for the huge image, didnt realise

I haven't even got my car yet to see how I go, but I've already got fuel economy envy! Wish this thread had started sooner - might have swayed me towards the 320d. In gear performance is close to the 328i.
I did start a fuel econ thread but might have thought about my question a little more carefully.

You would never know it's a diesel starting it up. As smooth as a petrol engine during idling. And guess what - no take off lag from this baby. Tried it a few times on my way to the office. Granted, it's not a terribly powerful engine, but the 118's light weight and the diesel torque, combine to start it off the blocks nice and briskly if required. Firm suspension reminded me of the E90, but at least this car does not have the terrible lag the 320d had.
