This is an overreaction. While the blocks should of course be removed, the car is not harmed by driving with them in place. Cars are simply not this fragile, even BMWs.

As already noted, it is incredibly easy to remove them - akin to removing the plastic shipping wrapper on a floor mat.

The service department cut me a check for ones months payment after writing the sales manager an email complaining.

It can be easy, it may do no harm to the car.
They keep your car for prepping. Probably they get money for the hours they spend to prep the car. As a result, indirectly you are already paying someone to remove those blocks.

You also pay for the experience with the dealership since it is a BMW but then you have the jack up your car and remove the blocks. You also loose time. You amke research on it to see why your car is stiff. You either take your car to dealer or you remove yoruself.

You don`t get what you paid for when dealer makes this kind of mistake. You loose time. It is fair to expect some type of compensation for this.

And also think people who are not this much into their cars. They would drive the car like that until the first service time if they are lucky, worse is they will drive like that until they sell.

There was a guy in another forum who drove with blocks until the first service. He also tracked his car.

Perhaps, but only a reasonable spiff commensurate with the incredibly minor issue/inconvenience.

What some on this thread claim they would demand is ludicrous. With this expressed sense of entitlement one can easily understand why service advisers groan when certain customers drive in - and why the general public thinks little of BMW owners.

Nonetheless, if a dealer's mechanic fails to remove the shipping blocks during the PDI, it is an inexcusable error and the person responsible should be reprimanded. Such an error suggests either a lack of proper training by the dealer's service supervisory staff or lack of attention on the part of the mechanic. During the PDI process, the car must be placed on a hoist. These shipping blocks are easy to see and to remove.
