the back seat is pretty tight and headroom isnt great. but it costs more than a 5. You pay for swoopier sheetmetal. IN the end a 535i sport and a 640i grancoupe drive very similarly, so if you are in it just for the driving and refinement you probably could just save your money. the grancoupe (and well in reality coupes) are about style not practicality. the grancoupe i'd say is just less impractical than a normal 2 door. If driving an refinement and practicality were the only 3 reasons to get a BMW, we'd all be driving stick shift wagons. |

The render is a bit off in the proportions. According to the test mule, the wheel base will not be that long. The render's wheel base is like a Long-Base F30!!
Here's a photoshop with proportions that is closer to the test mule. I think it looks better than the stretch limo look. |

^^^ Looks even better with the corrected dimensions. I'll take one in white
I see a lot of people complaining about the idea of the 4GC and what's the point, and so on and so forth.... You are obviously not the target market so it's only natural that you wouldn't like it. This car will appeal to folks like me who love the coupe styling/sleekness and/or own a coupe but can no longer afford to drive one because they now have a small child to worry about. This car offers me an option to not completely give up on my sleek coupe and represent the best of both worlds. Yes it may lack a bit on head room and leg room, but then again I'm not buying a car to drive my friends around like a 16 year old teenage girl/boy would. I may occasionally have other adults ride in the back but that's very seldom and certainly does not justify me passing up something this sleek if the increase cost is within my means. Love the shorter wheel-base!
I'm seriously going to be in the market for this in X-Drive version when my X3 lease is up!

Hi everybody!
I'm new here and, before I present me in the correct thread, I would share with you my vision of the 4GC (Gran Coupè), because previous renderings are fantastic (while I'm not a designer for job) but there's someting wrong (with all respect due) in line and proportions: it's not enough taking the 6GC's windows and insert them on the 4Concept to get the 4 GC; they have different lines, and the 4GC has a 3rd window (or may I say 4th); it's also wrong (IMHO) get a wheelbase longer, because I think it will be the same as the 4Coupè and the 3Sedan. To prove this, I've taken the body of my render and insert it in the 4GC spied, after highlighting the doors cuts: you'll see that they match/fit perfectly! Uh! If you want, I can post it in other colours. Excuse me for my bad (not professional) work and for my poor english! |

The 5 series is a nice car but it's just not for me. It's too big no matter how I look at it. for 1) The 4GC is based on the same platform as the F30/32 so better driving dynamics. 2) It has the sleeker and newer sheet metal of the F30 which I prefer over the F10 3) When similarly equipped, the 4GC should also be cheaper than the 5.
Simply put, if the 4GC did not exist, I would still buy a 3 over the 5. I'm sure you're now wondering why buy the 4GC over a 3. Because it has the coupe stance/styling and the streets will most likely not be flooded with them so a little more exclusivity |

1.) the driving dynamics are not F30 like cause prolonged wheelbase; a 5 series with sport suspension is on the same level 2.) new? in 2 years? if you think this way you wait one more year and voila the new generation of 5 series (nothing newer) 3. cheaper? It'a a Gran Coupe; the price is not going to be lower than 5 series. |

The door shutline is actually covered with an additional horizontal panel across the upper section of the door(evident on up-close pictures)
What you actually see is not the door shutline but a clever ruse to disguise the car. Recent interior pictures show why the car is actually a 4dr as the rear seat is sitting right at the quarter light which is where it will be on a 4dr if it was a 5dr the seat would be further forward to help with the trunk space. The Gran Coupe has to sell in the US and the US do not take kindly to hatches. With a 3er GT already in the family , it does not make sense to offer two hatches. The car is effectively a slimmed down CS Concept in outline with a shorter deck but still an elongated 4er Coupe. Why a 4dr 4er Gran Coupe? why not? The 6er Gran Coupe is being bought by customers who enjoy the individuality of sporty driving but they need the extra flexibility , these customers like to stand out too and a 7er , 5er and 3er? Well everyone has one of those.

2) Again not interested in the 5 unless they give it coupe styling and make is shorter, which they won't 3)A fully loaded 435GC will exceed a base 5, yes. But the price will be lower than a fully loaded 535i in comparison is what I was getting at. At the end of the day the 4GC is nothing more than a F30 with a wider stance and lower roofline. And that my friend is more appealing to me than a 5 series will ever be |

What I'm taking away from these posts is that there are some users that like the idea of having a 4 door small-mid size BMW that comes in multiple styles. The focal point is on style. It's interesting that this new need has emerged. I hope BMW is successful and doesn't water down the 3 series and the BMW brand.

So the 4GC will be even longer, I guess around 4m72. Which is still far from F10 (4m91 and 2m96 wheelbase) Last edited by advantage20; 12-14-2012 at 08:22 AM.. |

The new render is still poorly executed. The roofline on the test mule is more rounded, and less straight. The render is more elegant than the test mule unfortunately. Savio's analysis and rendering is spot on.

I really like how this 4 GC looks, and understand why BMW would offer another option for buyers to increase sales. When I see this, I can't help but think of the Infiniti G37 sedan. I remember reading that BMW looked at the X6 as an alternative to the sleeker Infiniti FX models. What do you think? Keep in mind the 4GC is based off a over-styled coupe concept and the G37 is several years out of date, however, can you see the similarities or is it just me?
