Adaptive m suspension

Is it worth it over the sports suspension?

Having experienced the Adaptive M in our M3, there is no way I would pass on this option. This is going to be the "new" must have Sports Package, IMHO, and likely the most favorite option on the board. Just sayin...

Autoweek's article (the one about the 2012 320d vs the merc) made an interesting comment when it said that bmw engineers say that the M Sport package would not come with as harsh of a suspension as the car without the Msport package because owners would have to live with this suspension all the time. If seems to indicate that the Msport package would only be available with passive suspension.. who knows...all confusing up to this point with no real clarifying information coming out of bmw

Here's the quote from Autoweek:

"BMW's engineers tell us that an M Sport suspension set-up (which comprises different springs and dampers from regular or variable suspended 3-series) will not ride as as harshly as the adaptive system in its Sports or Sports+ mode - because unlike with the adaptive dampers, M Sport drivers will have to live with it all the time."

So imo it's worth the money and I ordered it. So I can change from harsh to comfy. whenever I want.

Plus if you remove the RFT's, you'll have less of a marshmallow on your hands.

Yes, but how comfortable is it in "Comfort" compared to the standard sprung car?

My guess is that you will not dislike it...

... I find it funny how "picky" people nowadays have become, when just 10 or 15 years ago, you were doing just fine with much less and more scarce comfort ...

must be something to do with all the cell phone radiation... and apple design mindset... etc...

I am not saying it's a bad thing... but just an observation ...

I know(some of) the 328i testcars in Barcelona were equipped with Style 401 staggered 19"Bridgestone NON RFT Potenzas. Those are the ones I ordered as well. RFT sucks heavily.

You're lucky about that, we're stuck with RFT's only in the US on everything but M cars.

Like the current X3, difference between M-sport suspension & Adaptive M-suspension lies only on the dampers (i.e. M-sport has passive dampers whereas Adaptive M has variable dampers). The springs & anti-roll bars are the same for both types of suspension.

This is the part that I'm still waiting for BMW to clarify. It seems, from some of the things I've read, that the F30 will be set up like that...where if you get the M Sport package you will only get passive dampers. So does that mean the M Sport package F30s will not get the Comfort/Sport/Sport+ buttons? I mean, why would we need it if we have passive dampers?

While there aren't as many final details available about the M-Sport package, everything I've seen says that it will be standard with the passive Sports suspension, and the Adaptive suspension will be optional.

Fine by my, I'd like the M-Sports package but I have no interest in an adaptive suspension setup for RFT's, and replacing the stock passive components will be much cheaper.

I already checked the 12/2011 version of BMW's ETK & indeed both M-sport & Adaptive M use the same parts for springs+ARB (for EU spec at least).
The rocker switch will always be there, regardless of whether u have passive dampers or adaptive dampers. It's part of the Driver Experience Control, & only difference with passive car is u can't adjust the suspension settings (other settings, e.g. steering, DSC, gearbox etc., can still be adjusted).
Not sure abt US, but for EU & RoW, M-sport pack comes with M-sport suspension as standard, the Adaptive M-suspension being an option on top of the M-sport.

Judging from recent experience, passive M-sport suspension is less harsh riding than before. In recent launch events for BMWs across the range, BMW only seemed to have supplied press cars with either non-sport passive suspension or cars with the full works. Predictably everybody raves abt the cars w/the full works. Maybe the real best compromise is the passive M-sport suspension, but seems like nobody is allowed to know.

That explanation makes a lot of sense. Thanks
