Completely agree. I only did 1 run with and without. I wasn't trying all that hard to have optimal shifts, though it's an automatic tranny. But I still wasn't consistent on shift points. In the end, it's the ease of the difference as opposed to the raw time itself. I wouldn't doubt if the car was a 4.5 - 4.7s, 0-60 car post stage 1 add.

What do you think your gut feel on the distribution would be if you tried more times?

1s +/- 0.35s?

BTW, I like this thread as it is more real world than the typical drag time that can be posted.

My "guess", would be about .3 seconds off your 0-60.

I got my stage 1 today (2 days after I ordered it!) and it literally took less than 5 minutes to install it on my 13' f30 335i sport. This is the best video instructions I have found:

Testing with JB stage 1

Finally return my car to stock mode and was able to do some baseline testing. Got 0-60 in 5.5 in stock and 5.2 with JB. I thought BMW claims that 5.2 can be achieved with stock car and most magazines are testing to be around 5 seconds? I would expect at least 5 sec with JB. Did my car just happen to be slow?

Traction/tire pressure can heavily impact this. Don't be to disappointed, you gained .3 seconds on a street car for <$400!

I'm assuming this is auto? Did you spin the wheels at all?

It does seem slow. Wonder if the calibration is off or if your car is 'gasp' slow?! I'd expect high 4s fairly easily achievable with stage 1. A good driver with summer tires should actually be able to get 4.8-5.0 in stock form.

I would expect to run about 4.7ish with the tune. There are alot of factors to consider though. Did you happen to dyno it? I think it should be putting down 300 hp to the wheels and around 315ish tq.

I know for sure you can do it in stage 2, but for the F30 they don't have the in dash stuff available yet. Really not sure for stage 1. I'm guessing no, but I'd ask someone who has it to one of the JB4 guys. The other forum could probably get your answer the quickest.

Edit went and looked myself, straight from Terry:
"Stage1 is a single map, +3.5psi."

Yes it's an 8-speed. Throttle brake to 2k rpm. I never dyno the car and i wonder if the power mode on P-Box will tell me something. Unfortunately i suspect that my car is just a slow one of the batch......

Next up I will put back the Challenge HFC downpipe and run another test...

Jb4 and Challenge HFC DP is the two mods i was thinking about. I'd be interested in seeing the gains you get from the DP than just the JB4 alone (and if you have any issues with CELs for that matter)

I've tried it before I took the DP off. I didn't get to measure the 0-60 time. The numbers I had told me that DP made quite a bit of difference on 60-160 time(more than JB). However, after I put on JB, it didn't improve my 60-160 time. This time I will measure the 0-60 time. Talked to Terry, he emailed over the updated firmware for the JB. Perhaps it makes a difference now. I should be able to make the switch some time this week. In the part of the world where I live, people are more interested in 60-160 time than 0-60 time.

One thing I should point out about the HFC DP is that the CEL did not come on for me for the 3000 miles or so that I had it on my car. However, when I plugged in the computer to scan for error code, one error code did come back regarding the catalytic converter. I don't know if it would be an issue getting the car serviced.

Was there a reason you took off the DP?

Just felt like I should do a baseline test so I can understand better what each mod was doing to my car.

Came across this thing called TMC Tuning Box... A new friend threw it at me and I gave it a try... It is said to have 9 maps?? Apparently the map 9 supports an aftermarket downpipe.... Wasn't expecting much but did a test run... Launch at around 2K rpm again and got 5-sec flat.... best time I've gotten so far.... about 0.2 sec faster than my JB stage 1. I'm excited about upgrading to JB stage 2 but for now the TMC is staying under my hood.... at least until after I have another run with the Challenge HFC DP!

Nice, pretty impressive. Never heard of it, now you have me wanting to check it out. I still think your stage 1 JB4 should put you under 5 seconds!

I forget if I asked already, but are you getting any wheelspin with 2k RPM launches? May be worth it to launch at about 2.25k or 2.5k if you're not. Granted if you're running the stock all seaons the car may not hook up as well as decent summer tires, but I think the best launch should get a bit of squeel but not total spinning.

Edit:

Just looked them up, they're claiming a 76hp increase! That seems really high. I'm wondering if they're running a safe boost for that gain. I dont know if anyone has used them or has dynos/boost info on it so I'd be hesitant on it. I think the JB4 is closer to +30 hp to the wheels, so 76 hp is really high. That's like a DP+ Tune.

Also found a thread that touches on it from last year:

is there any way the dealer can see if you have the tune even if u get the bms cable?
I was told that some how bmw can see there was a tune even if you have the bms cable and deleted codes. I spent extra $$$$$ on extended warranty and did not want to avoid anything.

Only way they could tell (that I can think of) is: 1) You left it on and they just happened to open up where you 'hid' it or 2) they checked the logs and saw abnormal boost levels.

With a flash tuner, if you returned it to stock, they could look for elevated boost levels (I presume they can do this) and see how many times the car has been flashed which would throw up a warning if it was higher than expected.
