I've always believed that 7 series cars are predom "company cars" leased through the drivers business (self-employed). That's the only way people can afford $100k+ vehicles.
In any case the new 3'er will appear in Europe a few months prior to the US so keep that in mind when thinking of a time frame in which you'll see the new car. |

There are some 54 license plates on E90s over here, now our plates work like this..
05 means March 2005 55 means Sept 2005 06 means March 2006 56 Means Sept 2006 So 54 plate could be as early as late 2004 but in the case of the E90 I think it would be between Jan-March 2005. I am sure the car launched about 6 months earlier than that in Europe though, so mid 2004?? So it is coming up to 7 years old this September, and we got the facelift from MY2008 so that will be 3 years old soon as well, the E46 facelift was 2002 and then we saw the E90 2.5 years later. So I wouldn't be suprised if we see the new 3 series officially before the end of the year at all, in fact I would be more suprised if we don't. |

I went to my dealer today to drive the F10 - nice, if a little bigger than I like. While there I asked my CA (who has been at this dealer for at least 10 years) when he thought the new F30 would be out. He said that they had been told that it would be introduced in the spring of 2012 as a 2013 model, with U.S. intro in the early summer, probably June. This would be consistent with standard BMW new model introductions. He did say that BMW has been contemplating shortening their new model cycle from seven years to six years or maybe even five years, but this would not affect the intro of the F30. Maybe this "shortening" story is what is energizing the rumor that the F30 will be introduced next year? Don't know, but thought I would pass this on FWIW.

+1. I can see the appeal of being the "first" to get the new F30, but I would prefer to wait until some of the "kinks" get worked out...which is often the case with anything, not just cars.

Not anymore Now a days its cost cutting! Companies pour alot of money and use high quality materials into making the initial run. And then later on they cheapen it using cost cutting. Take for example e90, 2006 has some better quality items and some features were taken out of 2010 model years. Another example is PS3, initial Ps3 had a lot of features incl multi card reader, full PS2 compatibility..not anymore.

Remember those stereo knobs on the E90 models? I was reading another thread the other day and I came across that older models don't have the chrome knobs that was on the 335. My 08 328 came with those chrome knobs. I know that it's just a very negligible thing to compare but my point is, it's not necessarily true that a company is cost cutting and use cheaper materials later. They might shift things around, I would guess. |

the coupe comes out a year after the sedan so this could be possible.
