"Blackline" f30 taillights? Dark red

I'm looking for f30 taillights that have the "blackline" look. I want dark red instead of smokey or gray that everyone seems to have. They have blackline taillights for the e90 but not for the f30.
I honestly think the stock taillights look way too cheap next to my estoril blue paint. Plus, my windows are tinted so I think blackline style taillights would suit the car better.
Anyone know how I can get the blackline look? Is it possible to get blackline taillights with simple tint?

Your best bet is to apply those tinted films over the lights.

I didn't know about that. I thought people always use those stickers?

Tinted film can work but for least tacky results, only part of the light needs to be done. As with blacklines, perhaps you would do the peripheral edges of each of the housings; the idea is to give the darkened look without doing the whole thing (this is my opinion anyway). The taillights themselves then shine through at their full brightness. I don't think smoking from the inside is going to be effective, not to mention you put the housings at risk.

I had my MK5 GTI taillights done by "Jon's Tinted Tails" who sadly appears not to be in business anymore. He essentially gave them the body shop treatment to apply tint as a paint. More shades would result in a darker look, and the housing could be masked on request. It was then polished and clear-coated. I wanted R32 style, i.e. everything mildly darkened except the round lit-up portions. Definitely an improvement, especially on a darker color.

I won't muddy up the thread with VW images, but click the links if you're curious.

as stated above....theres 2 ways of doing it depending on the look you're going for.

if you're looking for what i think you're looking for....tinting the lenses will not give you that result.

I just found a possible solution. It's called VHT Night-shades. It's like a spray on tint with a glossy finish. Looks really nice. What do you guys think?

I use to sell those when I had my speed shop back in the days (15ys ago).
Very old product that gives a so-so result.
