Anyone Else Get the Half Price Wheel Insurance

Picked up my new F30 just before the end of December. Dealer offered me the BMW wheel and tire replacement plan for half price. Said it was a special for returning lessees. Anyone else offered this?

I got insurance (with no deductible or limits), but not for half price. I also didn't lease.

You can always negotiate for any insurance or warranty offered in finance. You probably got it for cost since they need to hit certain numbers by years end.

Nope. And after a year and a half with no incedents I'm not missing it. Although for half price, I would have strongly considered getting it. So what did they quote as being half price?

I'm under the assumption you can always get the wheel insurance for way cheaper than the quoted price lol.

The finance guy was REALLY pushing the wheel insurance hard and I kept saying no. Eventually he offered it at like 25-30% of his original quote (I think like 400 bucks?) and I reluctantly said yes since it's a lease

Do they only replace half a wheel?

I got lease protection for $800. Well worth it since I don't have to return the car with run flats.

I've been offered the BMW factory backed plan3 times in a row when I leased and it was always $1500 for 3 years with no deductible. The most the finance guy would knock off was $250. This time they offered the plan for $650 with no negotiating for the 3 years.

Apparently all of you guys who say you don't need the wheel and tire coverage never owned an F10 M sport. That model in 2012 has epic RFT sidewall bubble failure and bent 19" rim issues. I went through 3 rims and 3 tires on that car in 2 years and that's with the oem wheels off the car all winter. After putting out all that money the $650 was a no brainer for me.

The finance guy did repeatedly mention the RFTs and how they will get messed up. Honestly that is pretty sad when you are being told a part of your car sucks and will fail inevitably, before you even sign on the dotted lines.

My original plan was to swap out the RFTs for real tires from the get go and then just put the RFTs back on when i return the lease. But ~450 bucks is going to be cheaper than a decent set of regular tires so I said what the hell

hundreds of problems

If you look online you'll see hundreds of people who bought the M Sport F10 with 19" wheels had the same problem. The Goodyear all season RFTs they put on the car have a really stiff sidewall, too stiff actually because everytime the tire compresses (ie hits a pothole) the sidewall doesn't flex enough, the rim pinches the sidewall and makes a big blister in the sidewall. And that's the good outcome. I had 3 of those. In bigger impacts the sidewall doesn't protect the rim at all, presses the rim inward and the wheel readily bends. Sometimes you can't see even a scratch on the rim edge and the thing still wobbles like an egg on the car. Hard to believe that BMW didn't have to do a recall. And of course the Goodyear tires were always out of stock because they always failed and only the BMW dealers had them for $400 ea. if these guys didn't build such a good car Id have left the brand over this. Instead I buy another and a warranty.

The way I see it, you have to be informed of what you are buying. Look back at previous vehicle history and see how many actual flats and damaged wheels you have had. If you are a magnet, then buy the insurance. In addition, if you are buying a vehicle with 19's with low pro tires, get it. It almost feels like common sense, but I think it's because I've been fortunate to be a car guy all my life.
