Hi all... about to pull the trigger on a CPO GT after much consideration. I'm new to this vehicle and I guess word on the street is that people find this car to be an ugly duckling?? I personally like the styling and consider myself to have great taste .... am I missing something? I'd love to hear recommendations on the 328 vs the 335. Is there much of a difference in performance? What about gas mileage?

The 335 is a bit quicker, but I don't find my 328 lacking. The 335 engine seems to be more durable, which is a consideration if you plan on keeping it past 60,000 miles.

So 328 engines aren't as durable?! What are common issues with these engines? I'm planning on keeping one for 5+ years and def over 60k. Perhaps into 100k even.

The most reported issue is timing chains breaking, although that seems limited to engines built prior to 2015.

bknydon I actually just went through this exact dilemma when looking for my GT. I'm new to BMW, so can't even come close to the knowledge some others will give, but thought it worth chiming in since our situation sounded similar. It's a bit of a cop-out answer, but you have to test drive both and and mean really test drive. Not just a 5 min spine around the block. I live in Hoboken, so very similar to the driving you will probably be doing. The 328 in the city is just as "fast" as the 335. You'll get better gas mileage and you can find much better prices on a CPO since they seem to be everywhere compared to the 335. I personally went with the 335 full well knowing the 328 was great and cheaper purely because I've never owned anything but 4 cylinder cars and I wanted something different. The idea of owning an inline 6 before they were killed off pleased me, and I found the sound of the engine was better making an overall better driving experience. It's also fun to have all the power and be able to floor it from time to time when in a safe area. As far as gas mileage, I'm averaging around 21 mpg, but my driving is 95% city driving from stop light to stop light. My one long highway cruise I got 30 mpg. I don't use the start/stop function either. Honestly test drive both and consider priorities. Both are great, so there isn't really a wrong choice. I love mine so far.

Thanks, everyone, for the input thus far. I think I have decided on an alpine white CPO 2015 335 with 26,000 miles. That being said, there is a black 2015 328 M Sport which I also really like...it sounds like I won't be going wrong regardless of which one I choose.

An early production 2015 328 might have the suspect timing chain. Search the VIN to see the date of production. If it's after Jan 1 2015 it will have the revised chain and guide.

I have both a BMW 328 GT M Sport and a BMW 335IX coupe. You will not go wrong with either. Personally I like the 328 GT M-Sport package because of the seats, gas mileage and steering wheel and front fascia. The interior of the M-Sport is nice. Both are fast enough so I think it depends on the final deal you get.

Old thread but for those considering this, definitely take into consideration the sulev warranty offered for the 328. The parts list and reassurance of 15yrs/150k is for emissions related issues is tough to beat.

SULEV/N26 is pretty much what you're going to get in Cali. You may get it in other states but the warranty is state dependent as well.

I got my 2018 330 GT CPO and the warranty is good until 2023.

Ooo 330 is nice. I’m driving rn as a loaner. But not quite comparing apples to apples. The 330 is the beginning of the new naming convention in 2017.

I've driven the 328 and had the 330i as a long-term loaner. Buy the 335.

Better yet... go for the 340i GT that comes with the much hailed B58 engine! I wanted one, but found a comparable 335i GT for $10k less + CPO... ended up making the "sensible" choice.

This was the exact 340i GT I was looking at

You maybe able to find a really good deal with the down economy.

Damn that's pretty loaded. But I'm happy with my 16 CPO 328.

I had a 2014 328i GT for 3 years and loved it. However, I kicked myself a few months after purchasing for not spending a few more dollars to get the 335i GT. I’d heard if the power differences between the two but I had never driven a 6-cylinder. Fast forward to last summer, and the 328i GT got totaled in a flash flood and I used the insurance coverage to get a 340i GT. I couldn’t be happier. Been driving it stock for a year and I’ll be throwing a BM3 stage 2 tune on it very soon. Conclusion: the 335/340 is significantly quicker than the 328/330.
