Trunk hatch spontaneously opens.

I have a 2015 328i xdrive GT, have about 8k miles on it since April. a few weeks ago i was pulling out of a parking lot when my trunk opened while i was driving. i didn't think much of it, but then the other night at a restaurant while the car was off and parked, i came out and the trunk lid was open. then the other day i pressed the open lid button on the back of the trunk to open it and it just opened slightly (no motorized lift) and i had to manually lift it. i'm going to schedule a service with the dealer but wondering if anyone else has experienced such strange occurrences with their hatch?

you're probably hitting the button in your pocket. Happened to me when I first got the car and drove me paranoid.

I'm not familiar with the GC, is it supposed to be motarized? After a while, the trunk on my coupe doesnt open all the way either and I have to lift it, or I just hold the button extra long and it eventually raises. My e90 was like this also, think the shocks just go bad easily.

On my GT my trunk sometimes doesn't open all the way, especially when parked uphill on my driveway. Hasn't random opened yet.

Is that a BMW fob in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

lol.

Used to happen on my F30 till i began outing my key down when i came through the door and only picking up my key when leaving. I used to put the keys in my pocket then tie my shoes lace to come out side to find my trunk - boot open.

I appreciate the comments about butt dialing my key fob but i feel i ruled that out since my keys were on the table and not in my pocket when the trunk was opened the second time. Although i do hope it was something like that and not a malfunction. anyway i'm having regular maintenance next weekend and will have them check it out. i'm sure the dealer will tell me the same thing you are all saying, you know that basically I'm a moron and it's not the car. but i'm not a moron, at least i don't think i'm a moron, then again how do you really know? Don't answer that.

Mine is in the dealer right now to fix a few things, one was only partial lift on the hatch. They said the alignment was off on the arms and was sometimes causing it to stop lifting. Not sure if any of that would relate to yours but maybe if they are out, it isn't always closing properly then lifting?

There's a name for that: Dunning-Kruger effect. It's when you're too stupid to know that you're stupid, but in fact think that you're smart. OTOH most highly intelligent people don't think that they are. So if you think you're stupid you may actually be smart.
I would venture that your hatch is probably stupid.
