not sure if this has been mentioned on here yet but accidentally discovered a really cool safety feature yesterday.

if you are in reverse and someone walks behind the car it will make a continuous beeping sound until they are clear so as to warn you someone is behind the vehicle.

the safety 'warning' area seems to be from one rear passenger door all the way around the back of the car to the other rear passenger door.

very cool BMW.

Optional park assist. Nice feature.

This simply means that the PDC sensors sense something too close to the bumper -- and the person walking by is moving from one sensor to the next. It's a by-product of PDC and, while useful, not an engineered feature I would guess.

Wow this thread is great, going through all 30+ pages was worth it to learn a few new details about the car.

A not-so-cool issue with the sensors is heavy rain. The PDC sensors remain active for a short while after reversing, so braking after forward motion or sudden reversing can cause water to flow over the sensors and sound the alarm for an imminent collision. Scared the hell out of me a couple of times.

Here's something I found today -- if you want to turn the set heater off, you don't have to press it three times to cycle from level 2 -> level 1 -> off. You can just hold the button down and it will shut off.

Once you get your address entered, you highlight it in the red box--it might be for Start Guidance to that address, I forget.

Once it's in the box, hold down the preset key you want.

It is that way on the E46s and E39s as well.

Don't know if this has been mentioned put I noticed on the bottom of the rear view mirror a little pinhole that looked like there was a button. I pressed it using a paper clip and a compass appeared at the top right corner of the mirror.

it was mentioned in another thread, but good to consolidate here...yup, compass feature FTW.

Annoying that it defaults to no compass though.

What is this? Can't get anything up using voice.. Can you take a pic of the screen?

I can confirm yes it does, you can see reflection when dark

Apparently a market specific feature (already dicussed on this huge thread!). Doesn't happen for UK models (be interested to know whether anyone in the UK has this - i tried to no avail).
I'd like to know this too. Seems a great feature. Any UK bods got this?

Awesome. Something I always thought a tad annoying to cycle to off! Lol
Also. Does anyone know if/how it remembers your heat seat setting... Sometimes I get in and it's automatically on when I turn the engine on and others not...
The aircon seems to be the same, sometimes it's on (as in the light for actual aircon not just the blowers blowing) ...

I think this was also established to be market specific as like others wasn't it? I might have a look tomo and see if I have a hole... Lol

I just found out my car has a front collision warning system. I had no clue. I guess it's nice? Or, I could just drive with my eyes open, ya know.

You should have seen the CA's face when she discovered that my car had the front collision warning system while delivering my car. She was sincerely puzzled. She kept going back and forth between the nav screen and the window sticker just in utter disbelief.

What does the "front collision warning system" do? Did you order anything close to a driving assistance package?
