Does your auto gear shifter make noise every time you change ?

Hi everyone ! my 14 335i just got a gear shifter replaced due the side unlock button got jammed. I just noticed that whenever I change the gear position from D-N, R-D ect and I would hear a noise/dialing noise , I contacted my dealer, and they said my previous one was a defect and its normal to hear a noise. is that normal? I just want to confirm that? Thank you

Nope, no noise at all here. I also have a 2014 335i.

You're saying it makes some sort of electronic noise? All the loaners I've had have also been silent.

Yep, an electronic noise. I also called my friend who just bought a 2016 X1, he told me his car Make that noise too. Is it a new shifter thing? But thanks for your reply.

I had my shifter replaced recently and yes, it makes an electronic noise. Really pronounced when you put it into park. There is also a slight lag to engage park as well. I've gone back to the dealer twice and they say it's normal so I am trying to live with it.

Wow that sucks! How is that normal if rest of the cars don't make that noise? What did the dealer say? Did you compare with other cars?

I didn't get a 3 series loaner unfortunately, so I haven't had a chance to compare directly but the SA said the mechanic compared it to other cars and they made similar noises- kind of a whirling sound.

Wondering if I have the same problem. Mine makes the a noise when I go into reverse, and when I shift from fourth to fifth.

Yeah, I get a whirling sound when I shift from park to gear or vice versa. Never happened with the old shifter- which I guess is now discontinued, because they replaced it with the sport shifter.

I'm going to bring it back in, unless they could pull up another car that has a noise like that, otherwise I will not accept that as normal! My sunroof has a whistle noise when driving 50+ on freeway .

Let us know how it turns out. I might take it to a different dealer myself.

How could that be normal if some people have it and some don't? I find that noise very annoying because my old shifter never had that befofe.

This sounds normal to me. My 340 makes what sounds to me to be the same, if not a very similar noise when selecting a gear.

That is so weird because none of my friends 335i are making that noise plus a 2016 X1 he recently got. That noise is a turn off for a 52k car.

Yea, I usually don't notice it because I turn music on right when I get in the car. I just drove it, and it doesn't sound as pronounced as it does in the video you posted. Also, it sounded like putting it into park makes the most noticeable noise.
