I believe activating the signal indicator just temporarily reduces the following distance setting of the ACC system. First time I noticed this was signaling for an exit on the left side of the highway (NJ Route 17 South to Route 80 East). I thought the car was going to accelerate right into the vehicle in front of me!

Service dept spent 3 days "troubleshooting"
When I mentioned it happens if the wipers are left up for example overnight they were able to replicate it on my car and other F30's on the lot.

No fix available and I was told to "lower the wipers before moving the car"
Sorry for newb but how do you even place it in "service" mode? My non BMW cars I've just lifted the arm away from the windshield. I assume we can't do that anymore.?

If you try it the wiper will hit the rear of the hood. That's because the rest position is lower than most cars, for better aerodynamics.

Here's one I've never seen before. I was driving in a funeral procession with my 4-way hazard lights on, but when I hit the turn signal, the car stopped flashing all 4 signal lights, and actually went into turn signal mode. Genius!

If you press the 'nav' button when already displaying the map, it'll re-speak the last instruction, with a distance update if applicable. (May only be iDrive 5.0)

Also, to test you would have another person on the outside, and just ask them to try to unlock gas lid.
But be aware that on my 330e PHEV (and I assume all BMW PHEVs) the gas door is locked unless you press the button on the dash because the tank is pressurized.

Using the windshield washer in freezing temps causes the car to briefly turn on the windshield defrost to deal with the icing.

fI find that even with polarized sun glasses I can see the HUD (albeit less bright) so long as I am not driving into the sun. Driving into the sun it disappears.

My solution was tinted but not polarized sun glasses. Keep a pair in the car. In my case I wear progressive sun glasses and tinted, glare free, high index were not available (at least as far as I could find); but I found that Airwear colors work...but they are polycarbonate rather than high index.

If you don't need RX, just look for a good pair of tinted sun glasses.

The only problem with that is if you live in a hot climate, like I do, when you want to leave the sun roof cracked open to let heat escape. So I like manually controlling the sun roof.

That's what I did as well. The HUD works by projecting an image onto the polarized windshield. Polarized sun glasses negates the effect, so it gets really dim.

You can drive with your head sideways (90 degrees). Then it will be fine.

I don't believe the windshield is polarized. On the other hand a HUD is produced by reflecting a projection off the windshield. All reflected light is polarized! Unfortunately it's polarization angle is rotated 90 degrees to most polarized sunglasses. That's why rotating your head over rotates your polarized glasses into the polarization plane of the reflected HUD light and why it gets brighter.

I use polarized glass prescription sunglasses so I specifically didn't order the HUD option when I bought my BMW 4 last year. There doesn't appear to be an option to get polarized sunglasses with their polarization rotated 90 degrees. But then maybe if there were they might not work to reduce sun glare, and possibly you also wouldn't be able read digital watches.

In addition, all LCDs work by polarizing light, which needs to be taken into account when they decide how to orient the screens in the car, since polarized sunglasses have vertical polarization (to block out horizontally polarized reflected light from cars/road/etc). Unfortunately, light reflected from the windshield is polarized the same direction as light reflected from the road in front of you, horizontally... I'm really just repeating what you said though... lol.

I don't wear polarized sunglasses partly because tint interacts oddly with polarized sunglasses (something about the adhesive seems to give all windows a rainbow tint when using polarized sunglasses).

That's what the dealership and the glass shop said. You can't see the HUD from the passenger seat.

That last part is due to viewing angle/position and not polarization.

The manual definitely states that the windshield glass is special on cars with the HUD. I didn't assume polarization, I just assumed it had a special coating or special material for the laminate that reflects better. You're correct about viewing angle being why the passenger can't see it.. the HUD LCD is actually recessed far enough that there's only a narrow cone of area you can view it from in the driver's seat and behind.

On my E90, the non-NAV radio was bad. With polarized glasses, the screen went dark. Obviously someone on the infotainment team missed the memo on orientation.
