Here's one I've never seen before. I was driving in a funeral procession with my 4-way hazard lights on, but when I hit the turn signal, the car stopped flashing all 4 signal lights, and actually went into turn signal mode. Genius!

But be aware that on my 330e PHEV (and I assume all BMW PHEVs) the gas door is locked unless you press the button on the dash because the tank is pressurized.

My solution was tinted but not polarized sun glasses. Keep a pair in the car. In my case I wear progressive sun glasses and tinted, glare free, high index were not available (at least as far as I could find); but I found that Airwear colors work...but they are polycarbonate rather than high index. If you don't need RX, just look for a good pair of tinted sun glasses. |

The only problem with that is if you live in a hot climate, like I do, when you want to leave the sun roof cracked open to let heat escape. So I like manually controlling the sun roof.

You can drive with your head sideways (90 degrees). Then it will be fine. |

I don't believe the windshield is polarized. On the other hand a HUD is produced by reflecting a projection off the windshield. All reflected light is polarized! Unfortunately it's polarization angle is rotated 90 degrees to most polarized sunglasses. That's why rotating your head over rotates your polarized glasses into the polarization plane of the reflected HUD light and why it gets brighter.
I use polarized glass prescription sunglasses so I specifically didn't order the HUD option when I bought my BMW 4 last year. There doesn't appear to be an option to get polarized sunglasses with their polarization rotated 90 degrees. But then maybe if there were they might not work to reduce sun glare, and possibly you also wouldn't be able read digital watches. |

I don't wear polarized sunglasses partly because tint interacts oddly with polarized sunglasses (something about the adhesive seems to give all windows a rainbow tint when using polarized sunglasses). |

The manual definitely states that the windshield glass is special on cars with the HUD. I didn't assume polarization, I just assumed it had a special coating or special material for the laminate that reflects better. You're correct about viewing angle being why the passenger can't see it.. the HUD LCD is actually recessed far enough that there's only a narrow cone of area you can view it from in the driver's seat and behind.
