Of those two, most definetely JB4. No doubt.
I would be bored within 6 month without having the options from JB4.
Yup, there is a price difference, but it seems very little to what you/we allready spent buying the car.

The stage 1 is basically a bump in power with no bells and whistles.

The stage 2 is a full tune with more power and more adjustability and upgradability down the road for future modifications.

It also has all the bells and whistles of datalogging, steering wheel controls and the list really goes on. (soon for F30)

If you plan on going further then just a basic tune you should save up for the JB4 and do it right the first time IMO.

Stage 1 = 3.5 pound increase in boost and about 30 rwh and 50 pounds of torque. Great if your not planning any other future mods like DP because no code clearing. Other advantages is no wire splicing and takes 5 minutes to remove/ install. One of the guys on here is running the stage 1 with AFE intake getting high 12's in the 1/4.

so JB4 requires wire splicing? I would rather not have to splice every time I have to take the car into service. also not interested in customizing the tune, just want a plug and play.

There are currently no flash tunes for the f30 they are all piggybacks. It shouldn't take that long to uninstall if u had to

That's what I've read. Basically, if your going to run just 91-93 octane and not do anything else go with the stage 1 because all you can run on the JB4 is map 1 which is almost the same as the stage 1. Guys that have ran both said they are very close in performance gains. Anything above map 1 on the JB4 requires additional mods like full exhaust or down pipes.

that's just the info I needed. I'm not looking to make adjustments or hookup a laptop to change modes. just wanna plug it in and forget about it until I need to remove it for service. does anyone know the exact performance gains b/t stage 1 and JB4 alone?

I suggest you to go with Stage 1. Easy install and removal.
Decent power gain.

Stage 2 would be too complicated, but it is very rewarding.

I went with the Stage 1 because it's my daily driver. I wanted a bump in performance without the inevitable (and significant) downsides of modding a turbo BMW engine. I invest my money in my retirement, not in funding a sink hole (aka my car). I have my STi to mod and play with. Much less expensive to play with and repair.

I choose to have fun now.
If I'm lucky and someday become old enough to retire I still want to have fun.
I'll tune the h... out of my BMW-rollator when I reach 90

None that you will notice. Not worth getting more than stage 1 unless you're modding further. (I have stage 2 and can't tell the difference )

It's been well over a year without any change in features for the stage 2 f30. No in dash features like the e9x version. Best we have is it remembers the last map you were in when you turn it off and blinks the shift light to let you know which map that was.

You should let the car go through it's break in period first.

I think 800-1200 miles should do.

Technically....there's no break in period on these new cars. You can install it now and be just fine.

How long does the stage 1 take to install versus the stage 2? I purchased stage 2 and my car is a lease. I just plan on doing intake and M performance exhaust on 93 octane.
I am thinking I should have just gone with stage one?

It takes longer to find the wires than to install for stage 1. For stage 2 it's about double the time and it's harder to make a mistake but also easy to do (all relative so total time is 20 minutes) The biggest difference is stage 1 no wire splicing thus undetectable. Stage 2 you have to splice a wire...it's detectable even when removed. Unless your doing mods (more than exhaust) stage 1 is safer from a lease and warrantee perspective.
