The f/8 would be good news.

I wouldn't mind shooting one of these to see how it goes.

Shorter and lighter but with a bigger filter. Shame if you have a bunch of high end 77mm filters.

half an inch shorter and 145g lighter is a considerable difference.

I'm interested in lens, but the speculation about the pricing has me a bit put off.

I don't understand those primes at all. Isn't half the point of a wide angle prime to have a fast aperture?

I guess most of these will be used on things like the C300 video camera as opposed to the DSLRs though.

this is why i have a cokin system.

just get a different ring. I don't think I own 2 lenses that take the same filter size, so it just wasn't worth the $$ to invest in a filter for every lens.

Also, I rarely touch filters, unless i want to play. That being said, I just picked up a new ND filter i need to test out...

I saw the 135L images. Canon went with their sharpest lens for a reason, I guess. Still, one was at 1600 ISO and had zero visible noise.

I was just reading a review of the D800. The images are 76.5MB in size. Buying that camera would mean you'd have to buy a high-end workstation to use PS with the images. And *lots* of storage space.

other images were shot with a 600mm F4 and a 400mm 2.8

so as top of the line as you can go pretty much.

76.5MB that's massive gonna take a while to load

I think todays computers should be able to do it, at least with quad cores and such.

Will be interesting to see the effects.

People have been shooting 60megapixel medium formats for a while and post processing them on computers we've had out for a few years.

But this is why I say, "go PC over laptop" or "go Mac over Macbook" as they have less programs just keeping them alive, so their resources are put to better use.

Also, as Chewy has figured out, the SSD hard drives will make a great buffer for images of this size i suspect.

The main expense now is going to be memory cards!!! They will get filled fast!

I think Canon went with those lenses because they figure the primary still image buyer will be sports and studio/portrait photogs. Those are sports and studio lenses. You have to admit, that image of the soccer player in mid-air was pretty impressive.

And I was spec'ing out my next laptop yesterday. I'm thinking a 13" MacBook Pro i5 Quad-core with 16GB RAM. I'm sick of lugging the big 16" laptop I have and the new 13" MBP has a really impressive screen.

Looks like there no more fixed hood placement on the new 24-70L.

And that's one of the cool thing with the old one, that it's shortest at 70mm and extended at 24mm.

You'd be surprised at the night and day difference the SSD makes. I've been too busy with other stuff lately, but I'll try to write up a detailed performance difference between the various things I've tested recently. I'll post it here...

Before buying, you might want to see some of the extensive performance testing results I'll post later tonight. Btw, if you're really interested, PM me and I'll see if I can hook you up with a nicely spec'd out MBP (since my company gets some nice discounts on upgrades, etc). I hooked up panicos81 and he's very happy with his new system.

Thanks, Chewy, but I won't be paying for this. I get a nice laptop allowance from work. The Latitude Z600 I work on now was way pricier than the MBP I'm looking at. I can claim I'm "cutting back" by going to the MBP.

We sell to other businesses too.

I don't have a 30D, but I do have a 20D, which is very similar.

The local CL has a 30D in "like new" condition (the pics do look pretty good) for $250. The folks on campus are usually good to deal with because they'll come to your office so you can test things out. If this 30D is, in fact, like new, it seems like a pretty good deal for a 2nd and/or MF dedicated camera. I've been browsing the 30D forum at POTN and it looks like it has great IQ, even at high ISO.

sounds good Mark. The 20D was my workhorse for over 7 years, and I never considered selling it after I got my 5D2.
