Lightbulb Winter Wheels for 320d GT F34 2013

Hi everyone,

First of all, thanks for reading this. I'm looking to take a trip in Europe this Winter (where I definitely need winter wheels) and I can't seem to find any decently priced complete winter wheels (or winter tyres) for my F34. What I did find though is a lot of F10 wheels for reasonable prices with the same sizes J8 225 55 R17 but the rim offset is different. Instead of being ET34 like the GT, the offset is ET30 which means a 4 mm difference, which in turn means the wheels protrued an extra 4 mm on each side of the car.

I've phoned up my local bmw dealer which predictably told me that the part numbers do not match but I was wondering if you had any experience with this kind of situation. I've also noticed a lot of aftermarket wheels meant for the F34 didn't have the same offset either so that got me thinking ...

So I'm left with the solution of either shelling out around £800+ on F34 winter wheels from Germany, buying new winter tyres for my current 225 50 18 (around 800£) or getting the F10 wheels and risking some kind of damage.

The reason why I though it might be plausible is because I found an ad on gumtree for a set that was sold already but the ad said the wheels were used on a GT for 2 winter with no issues . (https://www.gumtree.com/p/wheel-rims...10-/1204981603)

I appreciate your help.

Thanks

I can't see 4mm being a problem. 40mm, maybe.

Does anybody have experience with actually using wheels with a different offset than the standard one (on gt is ET34) ?

Thanks

remussica: As Billfitz said 4 mm is not a problem. I would say that almost all aftermarket rims for F34 has a different offset of 4 mm or more.

My personal experience is that my winter wheels for the Gran Tourer has aftermarket rims, the offset is definately more than 4 mm off. No problem at all!

The tires for my F34 is 255 mm wide, even if the offset is correct it adds 15 mm to each side compared to 225s.

If you are looking for a set of new winterwheels and don't want aftermarket rims I would suggest: https://www.leebmann24.de/bmw/3er/wi...urismo&first=0

Hi, I have a 335i GT, just bought a set of 18'' rims for winter tire, but its offset is 40, do you think it will work? I tried to check online but it want me to select between with blue caliper or not. But the fact is my front caliper is a 4 piston caliper just like MP brake. Really confused.

Do remember that correct ET (offset) is connected to the width of the rim.
A BMW OEM rim 18x8" don't have the same ET as a BMW OEM rim 18x9". So, your new rims with ET 40, what's their width?

I have a set of E90 rims as my winter wheels. That's because I prefer to have good performance on uncleared snowy roads, and as far as I know there are no F34 rims with width less than 8"?
I want to go with 205s, and they don't look good on a rim that's 8" wide, thats why I use my old 7" wide E90 rims.

Hello everyone.

I will be pickin up my new gt in Germany in a week- really excited.

Winter tyres are bit confusing for f34, since there are many different opininios.

Can official 225/50 r18 get replaced with 225/45 r 18?
I have also noticed a lot of you put larger tyre size on back wheels. Is this recommended for f34?

I am running 225/45/18 winter square set. No real point in getting staggered winter set since technically wider tires in snow is worse. Plus u can rotate tires.

For summer set, i have staggered but can only rotate side to side

Thank you

Car has 416 spoke 18inch

Tire calculator estimates 3.5% size differance.
I hope that wont cause any traction control(or similiar)problems.

That size is beyond the recommended limits. Use the calculator in the link to also see what other sizes may be a better fit.

I wouldn't go with a lower profile tire. Winter roads are tough roads, and the lower the aspect ratio the greater the potential for wheel damage. For that matter if I had separate winter wheels I'd make them 17 inch. I would go with a narrower tire, say 215, all around. Narrower tires give better traction in snow because they dig through the snow to make contact with the road beneath better than wider tires. A 215/55x17 is what I'd use.

Hi,
I have put 225/50/18” on mine. Alloys: black Matt with continental winter tyres - supplied and fitted by bmw garage. Car looks good - very difficult to notice difference downgrading wheel size from 19” to 18”.
