My iphone also very hot in my case. It seems however to happen only when using the web radio over 3G. When using only the music it does not get hot.

I am surprised if it is only the BMW application that would make the iphone hot, this would also happen with other applications or games.

Could it be that it is getting hot with the 3G connecting to web radios?

The best thing to do is to get an extender cable that has both female and male IPHONE connectors and plug on in the phone cradle and close the armrest cover then you will have cable outside to plug the iPhone in and charges it and play youtube etc... Make sure you buy the media cradle and from ebay you can buy the cable that must do VIDEO too.

I had the same problem heating and also having to plug the phone in the cradle and close the armrest. I bought on eBay a cable extender female to male apple iPhone leans and plugged one end to the phone cradle and closed the armrest and have teheran cable out and plugged the iPhone out

Just use a 32gb USB thumb drive. Cheap and you can leave it plugged in all the time. No need to worry about your phone melting. Strange that heating issue didn't get addressed before it was released.

ANyway you could post a link to the cable you bought? I'm finding more than one option on ebay, and am the first to admit I'm not clear on the difference between the various options. Thanks!

You gain nothing but reception (claimed) by having the cradle, and the issue of taking it out of your cover each time to snap it in. The Y cable in my R56 plays video and all the apps. It's the same cable and design as the F30. Just buy an extender like a few have said if you want to have the phone ore accessible or plug it in like I do, with my otterbox on and take it out when you leave the car. The big plus is never having the heat issues that the cradle has.
