Apps (6NR) for My Remote BMW

Hi, does anyone know if the accessory "Apps" (6NR) is absolutely required for the iPhone app "My Remote BMW" to work? Some say yes, some say only BMW Assist is required...

Just Assist should be enough. My '09 X5 also works with 'my remote BMW' and does not have Apps
