Dash Cam Suggestion

Need some suggestions for a dash cam.

I'm opening to standalone dash cams and rearview mirror mounted ones, but my primary concern is I do not want any odd power wires visible.

This has been covered in a lot of threads. Do you have USB power in your glove box?

I did try to use the search function with keywords like "dash" and "dash cam" but didn't find anything. I actually saw a post about it a couple weeks ago too, but can't seem to find it.

Yes, I have USB in my glove box.

I'm also interested because I've seen these pay off for friends and drivers here are terrible. It would be good to have the latest info too.

Blackvue is the brand I've heard good reviews of.

This all depends on how much functionality you want and how easy you want the install to be. Least functionality but easiest check out Goluk. You can pull the A-Pillar trim and run the wire to your glovebox in 5 minutes. But it's driving only, park mode is an issue.

Look around and read up on different options. You get into the whole pile of what's important to you that only you can answer. Are you comfortable ripping the interior out to run wires to trunk? Do you need front and rear facing? Do you need it on while parking? Do you need remote access via phone app?

If you purely want something that records up to 16 hours on a loop so you have video evidence in the event of an accident or something along those lines Goluk is the path of least resistance to that with no wires. Beyond that it's more work and more money, etc. If you have a cig lighter in glovebox you can install Blackvue with battery pack but that gets pricey quick.

I have the Blackvue DR650S-2CH and for the most part I like it. They are releasing the DR750-2CH here very shortly.

Try this thread: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...ht=Dash+camera

Yeah, it's UK based, but that's not really relevant. Seems to have a lotta info there. Good luck!

[Edit] Actually, use this: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sea...rchid=52259878

It's the search results for "dash cam" for the entire board.

This!

I have this cam with a cellink battery B for parking surveillance, and have been very pleased with it, it's been spot on with no wires showing either.

I know the Thinkware cam has full HD rear and better WDR capabilities but I found the BlackVue to be sleeker looking and less noticeable.

Using the battery B gives the back up power without straining the main battery, also makes sure you don't get any battery discharge warnings when you start the car, the BMWs are very power sensitive. Black Box my car are really in the know with this stuff and specifically BMW applications.

It has helped me find out what actually happened when I come back to my car and some weird stuff has been going on.

Just be aware that for some reason the Cellink B batteries are shipped with 20A fuses, they really don't need to be that high, I installed a 10A fuse with no problems, apparently peak current draw on the system and battery can be around 8 to 8.5A. Always safer to have it fused down as far as you can.

Here's the announcement for the DR750s.
Biggest difference I can see from the 650s is 60fps and 1080 rear camera.
