Just ordered myself some Michelin Pilot Sport 4S all round to replace the Bridgestone OEM runflats. Getting them fitted next week so looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about!

Clearly as I'm moving from runflats I need to make arrangements for having a puncture. Is this the right way to go...

It?s suitable, but the Continental kit is quite a bit cheaper. The Continental system is used by Ford, and there is a cheap online Ford seller (Bristol, Gloucester area from memory).

Alternatively, some just buy a plug in compressor and slime.

First, congratulations on getting off run craps. Please post when you get your new tires and let us know how you like the difference in ride.

I made the change 18 months ago and never looked back. I bought this kit on Amazon (USA). I don't know if its available in UK but check it out.

I've never had to use the repair part of the kit but it has everything you would need. The air compressor is fantastic.

I have a tin of Tyreweld. Would only use in an emergency as the stuff damages tyres / TPMS. May invest in Slime kit.

Last time I looked there were lots of genuine BMW/MINI tyre mobility kits for sale on ebay for around the £50 mark. Just watch out for ones with sealant bottles approaching their expiry date.

I?ve not used the kit as it should, but I have had a puncture. From experience, a high flow compressor is a good thing. Especially in my case as the nail had come out leaving an open hole....hissing out air. Luckily the compressor in the Continental kit is pretty meaty. I was able to pump up to 2.5 bar then drive about a minute me before repeating. I was close to home so went for that technique, rather than filling the tyre with glue.

Other than a strong compressor, I imagine having a large amount of glue is important, especially on 255 ?large? tyres. Mine has 560ml as a guide. Is that enough?

Well that didn't go according to plan!

Visited the garage this morning (Formula One Autocentre in Longwell Green, Bristol), 9:30 sharp for my 9:30 appointment. The bloke I spoke to didn't have a clue, confused at my "double order" (actually fronts and rears) but I let it slide. He said it would take an hour, so I went and sat in the waiting room. An hour later, after his team had had several cigarettes but shown little evidence of working on any cars, my car was still sat where I left it. So I politely asked for my keys back and left.

The good news is my order was with ASDA tyres so I hadn't paid anything up front and can just walk away without having to have an argument over refunds.

Does anyone know a good garage in the Bristol area?

I've used Formula One in Dunstable, also through Asda Tyres and had no issues

I'd give their head office a call, they're quite a big chain and shouldn't have any issue fulfilling an order like that

They shouldn't, but they did. I don't want to give them a second chance, I'd rather give my money to a business that deserves it.

Do you have to inform your insurers if you switch away from runflats?

I haven't informed my insurers, no. Don't see why I should need to, happy to be corrected...?

Fitted today, and my initial view is that the ride is a little better, stability while turning is a lot better and steering precision is better but steering feel feels worse. I don't know if that's because the competence of the tyres highlights bad steering feel more though or something else. I'm pretty pleased. I've only driven a few miles so far and haven't pushed them hard or played with tyre pressures yet though so can't really give a full review.

When I rang my insurance company to notify them that I was changing my RF 's to standard tyres on my X3, I had to explain what RF's were! In the end they said it was fine as long as I stuck to the recommended tyre load etc.
I also spoke to a BMW dealership and listened to their load of old twoddle, so went to the BMW Warranty people (as I pay for the warranty now) and they were useless too.

"except maybe how easily they puncture" - I thought a lot of people went to non runflats not only for ride quality but also due to the fact that they were experiencing a lot of punctures?
