MY17 Diesel Production Suspended

BMW Canada recently informed their dealers that "all MY17 diesel production (for North America) will be suspended until further notice. This production delay affects 3 Series, X3 and X5 diesel variants."

The EPA is "prolonging the homologation process for many manufacturers", i.e. all German diesels.

BMW dealers have been verbally informed that this production delay could be as long as 12 - 18 months. This means that it is highly unlikely that there will be any MY17 diesels for North America.

We can thank the malfeasance of VW/Audi Group for this sad situation.

For anyone contemplating the purchase of a MY16 328d, X3d or X5d, you had better act ASAP.

I am very grateful that just four days ago, I took delivery of my 2016 328dxT; it may well be one of the very last diesel F31s to be shipped to North America.

No doubt lobbyists, funded by certain Japanese manufacturers of hybrids, like Toyota, have been hard at work in Washington, DC, trying to eliminate the diesel competition.

Exactly that the what make me mad about Usa reaction. In a country like Norway which doing lot of efforts to fight pollution it would make sense. But in Usa, the world capital of pick up trucks it just sound like a way to steal money from VW. Specially if you compare with the fine GMC had for killing many American...
