BMS stage 1 Dyno Results
Hi All,
As promised i did the dyno test on my 2013 328 Sedan, and here are the results. Stock results : 228.81 WHP Map 1 results 246.19 a solid 18 HP gain!!!! 18 HP increase is amazing, dont get me wrong but the gain in Mike's posted dyno results was 31 WHP, why is my gain almost 50% ? |

What kind of dyno? Dynojets read higher than Mustangs or other load bearing dynos.

18whp on a Dynojet is a bit low IMHO.
On a SuperFlo, which is a low reading load being dyno, I had a 7whp/20ft lbs gain from just a catback. From raising boost by 3psi, I would expect more like 30whp.

In fact you can even try EcoPro mode. It gets a bit of a definitive kick. Then again, find some safe road, transform the car into Sport mode and let loose after you have warmed the car up. Scary fast!!!

I wrote to BMS and they replied that I had to step down on the gas more to feel the difference...........kind of odd because if you slam the gas on any car, it will move! wonder if adding the sprint booster would help.

Maybe you missed the point.
He felt something wasn't right, his dyno is backing that up. Other dynos have shown proper gains, so he now has facts to look into. You, may have had suspicions, but have no factual data to back up. So what is happening with him does not automatically validate you. You can head to the dyno yourself, THEN you can say I told you so. Get it now?

Its ok, you're right. His dyno on his car validates your feelings about your car and nullifies anyone elses experiences on the contrary.

Dyno gains will vary by octane used, dyno conditions like weather & elevation, fans used, etc. It looks like you were switching around maps a lot between runs which will also affect the results as each map requires a certain amount of adaption to work properly. Without
detailed logs there is no way to know why you made more or less than you could have made under different conditions. Also, peak numbers are only part of the start. You need to look at overall power gained under the curve. Mike |

Of course, if you wired the BMS up wrong, the dash CEL would have lit up. So this being the case, you got the wiring correct, which as we agree, is not hard. When in Comfort mode, accelerating the car gently and even moderately, there really isn't any difference in performance compared to stock. If there is, it isn't perceptible. We really haven't engaged the turbo terribly much. Staying in Comfort, when you give the pedal a little shove further down - doesn't have to be that much - and truly engage the turbo, you should be able to feel a marked difference between S1 & stock. As mentioned, I even found EP mode to go significantly better, even within EP's solid line parameters. Ok, so go through various runs with different pedal settings in various modes. If you still feel the unit isn't working, disconnect the battery, remove the unit, reconnect the cables to stock and compare runs. Then re-connect and try again. Thinking about this, a very and I mean a very long shot may be that the control box didn't connect with the ecu and may need to be re-engaged. Maybe. Although I would suspect CEL warning, but one never knows. So that may very well be your best way to check your S1 unit is truly working. If not, take matters up with your supplier. Lastly, no matter how a post reads, we are all here to help. Cheers

Did you happen to install the BMS then go directly onto the dyno?

Dynos are meant to show an improvement over the prior setup. Comparing one dyno to another dyno is silly. Your operator, and conditions play a key roll and can alter results. Use a track or a vbox as proper measurement. I'll take a fast car that dynos lousy over a dyno queen that runs like crap.

i am using the 91 Oct fuel. Also the map 1 has been there for at least 3 weeks so it should have a really good result compared to the stock one which was just switched on after the first dyno run, but the gain was still a shy 18 HP. Please let me know what should i do so you guys can clearly see if it is working properly or not and i will be happy to do so. |
