I’m considering fitting that gloss-black trim the 4GC uses around the climate controls on my F30… Does any existing Lines use this glossy trim piece or do I need to wait until I can order 4GC parts?

Coupe doesn't mean 2-door it is french for "cut" and refers to the sloped, cut roof line which is normally associated with 2-door cars but also works with 4/5 door cars.

Future 4 series GC owners, get ready for this conversation:
"Nice 3 series" "No, it's a 4 series" "I thought all 4 series were 2 doors, isn't that why BMW renamed it?" "Yes, except for this model. It's a grand coupe" "Isn't a coupe a 2 door car?" "Yes, but grand coupe from BMW means it has 4 doors." "Umm...ok, then what makes this different from a 3 series?" "I paid more for it" |

If BMW fixes the awful headlight with the LCI, the 4GC will be one awesome looking car, especially in ///M clothing!

Early usage of the term is derived from literal translation of the term, but in the automobile context, coupé has only ever been used to refer to 2-door cars... Except! According to Wikipedia, the term was used to refer to a chop-top Rover P5 in the sixties, then by Toyota in the eighties. However, the term wasn't widely applied to 4-door cars until the late noughties (2000's). I am loathe to accept the new usage of the term, as I think it is a classical misnomer, perpetrated only for the purposes of marketing.

Its marketing.
If its called a gran Coupe the MSRP will be higher than the sedan version and will probably sell at that price point. If they call it a hatchback (which it technically is) then it gives the impression of a downmarket vehicle (at least in the US market where most don't appreciate HB's or wagon body styles). That aside it is a nice looking car and were I in the market today I would consider it over the 3er sedan due to slightly better looks (very subjective) but more for the HB versatility. |

This may be the best looking sedan that BMW has made since the E39.

Good lord, this again? It's not a 'hatchback'. It's a sleek sedan with a trunk that opens in a unique fashion. If this car had a traditional trunk you wouldn't say "gee, it looks like a hatchback" because it doesn't. It's an F30 with the "Squish" Line. It's an F30 with the Panini Package. |

Tough choice now between the redesigned X3 and the 435i Gran Coupe! BMW is on a "win" roll!
Unfortunate that these two beautiful designs will not (likely) see an M version though.
