[Official] Post Your Deals! / Feedback On Your Quotes

Hello All,

I’ve noticed members posting their questions about the deals they got and/or were quoted and want feedback as to if it was/is a good or bad deal. This is my attempt to consolidate those posts into one central thread that will act as a repository for future reference and aid others now and in the future.

With that said let's keep the format the same for consistency. I’ve provided an example template below:

Code:
Price you got [IF Already BOUGHT car]
Dealer Name/ Location: Fuzzy Bunny BMW/ Pony Land, Alabama
Year/Model: 2013 335i xDrive
MSRP: $XX,XXX
Invoice: $XX,XXX
Options/Packages: Technology Package, etc.
Cash Down/ **MSD: $XX,XXX
Negotiated Price: $XX,XXX
*Money Factor: 0.00129
*Lease term/Miles: 15,000/36 months
*Lease Payment: $XXX
Other Pertinent Information:
*[Only Applicable if you leased]
**[Only Applicable if you leased and cash down went towards MSD]

Code:
Price you were quoted [Have NOT BOUGHT car]
Dealer Name/ Location: Fuzzy Bunny BMW/ Pony Land, Alabama
Year/Model: 2013 335i xDrive
MSRP: $XX,XXX
Invoice: $XX,XXX
Options/Packages: Technology Package, etc.
Negotiated Price: $XX,XXX
Other Pertinent Information:
Again, it is my attempt to centralize the pricing database which, in the current state, is spread all over the forums.

Please let me know if you would like anything added/changed on this to help yourself and others on their car buying Endeavour.

Whoops, sorry about that! Rather than guessing, i'm going to leave the PPT (Since MA works differently with that) out of this and give the base payment.

This is assuming 2% ($825) profit

Code:
Gross Capitalized Cost $43,000.00
Capitalized Cost Reduction - $5,750.00
Adjusted Capitalized Cost = $37,250.00
Residual Value - $29,802.00
Depreciation and any amortized amounts. = $7,448.00
Rent Charge + $3,065.62
Total of Base Monthly Payments (Depreciation + Rent Charge)=$10,513.62
Lease Term (Months) = 36
COMPONENTS OF YOUR MONTHLY PAYMENT:
Base Monthly Payment = $292.04
TOTAL MONTHLY PAYMENT: $292.04 + (any pro-rated tax)

How much is your pro-rated tax per month? It cannot be that high to be bringing your payment to that $400 mark. Plus I hope you're not paying MSRP.

Tax is 6.25% per month on the payment.

How should I be getting $300 according to your calc? That's about 50-60% of what even BMW NA quotes! I'm not saying you are wrong, more so just curious!

I'm putting down $5,750, but that's also to the tax, title, dealer fees, ect. (I think this is about $2,000), so it's REALLY only ~ $3,500 down?

1.) How did you arrive at that Gross Capitalized Cost of $43,000? Is that just the invoice price for the respective MSRP of $46,000?

2.) How did you arrive at that residual amount of $29,802? Isn't MF about .62? I think the current calc shows a MF of about .80?

3.) What is rent charge? How is that calculated? I'm sure it's some factor depending on miles per year. Are there charts for this?

Thanks so much for your assistance!

1) my calculation was from a negotiated price of $42,075.00 + $925 acq fee (highest dealers are allowed to mark up). Please note that if you go for $500 over invoice please drop that price by $325 to shoot for that benchmark price.

- ANOTHER avenue is to stay at that 2% above invoice and advise that they can add all the fees that they want but everything out the door should not go above that price. That way you waste no time with looking at fees that are being charged (of course skim over them though). Both approaches reach the same end goal. <---I personally don't feel comfortable with this approach but others have done it and its very effective. I've also heard people getting a $500 over invoice deal and getting hosed on fees, etc.

2) I think certain terms may be being mixed up here…the MF is where the “rent charge” comes into play (not the residual), essentially what you are paying to BMWFS for them letting you lease the car. The residual currently for a 328i is at 10,000 miles 65% (when I priced this out the MSRP came to $45,850.00 excluding the destination charge – 65% is $29,802)

3) Rent charge is the total “finance charge” on the lease…equivalent to the interest you would be paying if you financed the car. It is calculated as follows “(Adjusted Cap Cost+Residual Value) * Money Factor * Lease term”. Miles per year is a factor as the residual value comes into play when calculating the rent charge. Say if you wanted 15,000/yr, that would change the residual percentage to ~62%...in return that changes your residual value component of the rent charge calculation shown in the beginning of this paragraph.

These numbers aren’t 100% accurate to what they will be in a real world situation, but it certainly gives you an idea of what to expect...

I hope this helps

Thank you so much for this.

I guess I can't figure out how a lease payment can be sub $300 for an MSRP $46,000 vehicle? I never hear of these deals!

I think the number is deflated, the $5750 went towards the cap cost reduction. With your guesstimate of $3500 actually going towards cap cost reduction, the payment jumps to $357.40 (base payment) + $22.34 (tax) = $379.74

Thanks, that makes more sense I think. I'm just going to assume first payment, dealer fees, taxes, titles and reg amount to about $3,000, and I think I'm only getting $5,500 down with incentives, so that makes the cap cost reduction $3,000 at most. With taxes factored in, it arrives close to $400 which is my payment.

Thank you for all your help!
