A nice sliding cover, looks like a treadmill, that rolls back into the console would have been cool.
Slide it open to use holders, slide it back when not in use.
Exactly.

That would be cute, perhaps, but if they need to waste space with a cupholder it is probably better to incorporate a cover which also has some use value. Perhaps the current one or similar which also slides back into a recess to use the holders.

I love this option at the car wash. If I don't fold them in they hold water and drip on my freshly cleaned car as I drive down the road.

The inner pair of headlights on HID equipped F30s should disappear. They have no functional purpose but to increase cost.

As an FYI, the frontmost moulded plastic 'pocket' in each lower front door card is shaped specifically to hold a bottle of water. So eschewing the cup holders doesn't mean you can't keep a beverage handy.

Ok ok I get it, folding mirrors ARE a good idea. The only time I have had a mirror damaged is driving over a narrow bridge and being knocked off by a car going the other way - now if BMW could develop a mirror that folded away as you approached a hazard - THAT would be a good idea!

You can code your car to do this. I use it all the time; It's very handy.
You can press longer on lock button on key fob. It will close mirrors and windows. If you got comfort access, touch the door handle longer.

That feature is not enabled in US cars unless you code it yourself.

in regards to the "swinging pendulum" you can turn that off in your vehicle settings. i went through and turned off that and the "mode" detail screens. so nice to hit sport mode and NOT have the same freaking graphic pop up each time for 10 seconds!!! now if i could just make the distracted driving warning go away...

which reminds me. only useless feature (aside from the cupholder cover) is the startup distracted driving warning that goes away when you ignore it.
We can't turn off our MPG "meter" - we don't have the extended digital display - this one is analog.

I like the cupholder cover - I am tired off every other new vehicle we buy having large round holes in the center console - they're ugly. Glad I can hide them in the F30.

And, under vacuum/no throttle, there is great MPG.
It's gimmicky, and I don't find it useful at all.
My E46 had this too.

I find the gauge useless, and I don't like how it looks, very old tech.
There is a digital readout that's instantaneous.
Not on iDrive, but on the gauge cluster.
My 135i had this as well.
Had an E92 loaner for 3 hrs while getting stop/start coding last week - didn't see the MPG "meter" on that. Not sure what possessed them to bring it back.

Agreed - that is exactly what our '08 G35 had (along with a button on the trunklid to open it w/out getting out the fob) before it was reduced to scrap metal.

All F30 models don't have the old 'swingometer', it depends on the display. Black panel displays are digital.

E9x models lost it, if they had the oil temperature gauge fitted. As always, not all BMWs are equal.

BTW, I defend BMW's use of the swingometer over the years, although digital is now the way forward.

AFAIK, that's only possible with the fob button. This is available without coding.

Even with coding, keeping my hand in the door handle just unlocks, it doesn't open the windows.

You have to understand the German culture. From their perspective you shouldn't be eating or drinking while you are driving, it is a distraction, hence the crappy spring loaded cup holders that were in previous generation bmws. At Least BMW put decent cup holders in the f30. If it makes them feel better to give you a cover to hide the holders then so what. Better that than no cup holders.

The most pointless thing on my f30 is that damn clown nose that does absolutely nothing, AFAIK!

BMW also treats their workers better than many car companies.

Not that BMW should be nominated for sainthood, but for people who care about the environment and working conditions, they are as good a company to choose from as any other.

Products from "budget" companies are often produced under more inhumane conditions and with poorer manufacturing standards and emissions than premium companies.

MPG is not the most important factor in determining environmental impact.
well said and +1

no way the auto folding mirrors are great! the lines are stupid. BTW, are the power folding mirrors now standard?

edit- to address some of the above comments- I DO care about MPG and like the ECO idea. NOT for environmental reasons, but for time reasons. I want the car to make it through a week of commuting so that I only have to fill it up on weekends and don't have to deal with stopping to get gas on the way to work or on the way home. Is the convenience of a range of 400-500 miles too much to ask? I don't think so.

Mine do fold when pushed, even in both ways, and it is electric auto folding. That car must have hit your mirror in (too) high speed.
