So, now. BMW is doubly cautious.

Look, I went out to buy an electric heating pad. OMG!!! The piece of crap has so many safety features it is useless. First, it only stays on hot for 15 minutes. Next, you can't reset it (turn it back on) more than 5 times without unplugging it.

What a joke.
Not so sure we can blame "the Nanny State" for this. Sadly, we (the US) have become a "sue happy" nation. So many people will sue a company for the most minor reason. Corporations have had to hire an army of attorneys to write warning labels for every product to ensure the company has covered every conceivable circumstance.

This isn't the states' fault, it's our fault.

For those that are interested, and I am definitely not suggesting anything here...there are coding options that allow users to toggle the maximum temperature of the heating elements in the seats. Not that I've changed it on my car or anything....hint hint...but my seats are warm pronto now.
I was considering this. How many degrees would one want to add to the default to make the difference? Or is it a matter of reducing the time set to reach the temp?

90 seconds to win me over

Until yesterday I always thought seat heaters were for sissies, and an overpriced option - I never had them in my E46. And, in my Ford pickups, my a$$ was the seat heater. The only reason I selected the $500 option this time last year, was in deference to my wife.
I cranked up my F32 yesterday for the first time in a month. It was just above freezing outside when I pushed the seat heater button in comfort mode. It started to get warm within 45 secs, and was like a toasty electric blanket in 90 secs.
I've been suffering from a cold and cough for about a week and when the seat heater got warm my mood dramatically improved and I had to take a 30 min drive - just because. Heck, I even considered sleeping in my driver's seat last night.
You'll not hear me complain about seat heaters as an overpriced option now.

What is everyone else's experience with the seat heaters in the F30. Is this the new standard or is it possible that there is an issue with mine?

I realize that life must be rough if I am inquiring about seat heaters but am just trying to determine if there is an issue or not. If it matters, the E90 had leatherette and the F30 has leather.
I absolutely noticed this as well

New car seat heaters suck!

It's been "cold" in LA so the heated seats have been getting a lot of use. My outgoing 2008 335i it takes less than a minute to get warm. My wife's 2014 X1 takes less than a minute to get warm. And my just acquired 2015 335i takes... less than a minute to get warm. They all have seemed identical. My friends 2013 Mazda 3 takes 4-5 minutes to get warm, even on the hottest setting.

Mrs fastflyer loves heated seats so much she has them on full power constantly, even when she gets hot she turns on the AC before turning the seat off.

Heated seats are the dogs knob, great on those cold days or for those bad back days (MTB crash lol).

Mine take a couple minutes to heat up, however I tend to just start car in morning, heated seats and full heat blow, then just lock car and finish my coffee.

Heated front screen would be nice addition though.

I am not sure about getting it to warm quicker but you can change the temperature at each level. This will require you to code (all values in HEX):

FEM_BODY 3090 TEMP_LEHNE_STUFE_1_FRONT User Value werte = 96 Temperature for Heated Seats - Front Seats - Upper Body - Setting 1 Value (Default: 95º F)
FEM_BODY 3090 TEMP_LEHNE_STUFE_2_FRONT User Value werte = A2 Temperature for Heated Seats - Front Seats - Upper Body - Setting 2 Value (Default: 106º F)
FEM_BODY 3090 TEMP_LEHNE_STUFE_3_FRONT User Value werte = AE Temperature for Heated Seats - Front Seats - Upper Body - Setting 3 Value (Default: 116º F)
FEM_BODY 3090 TEMP_SITZ_STUFE_1_FRONT User Value werte = 94 Temperature for Heated Seats - Front Seats - Lower Body - Setting 1 Value (Default: 94º F)
FEM_BODY 3090 TEMP_SITZ_STUFE_2_FRONT User Value werte = A0 Temperature for Heated Seats - Front Seats - Lower Body - Setting 2 Value (Default: 104º F)
FEM_BODY 3090 TEMP_SITZ_STUFE_3_FRONT User Value werte = AC Temperature for Heated Seats - Front Seats - Lower Body - Setting 3 Value (Default: 114º F)
FEM_BODY 3090 TEMP_LEHNE_STUFE_1_FOND User Value werte = 96 Temperature for Heated Seats - Rear Seats - Upper Body - Setting 1 Value (Default: 95º F)
FEM_BODY 3090 TEMP_LEHNE_STUFE_2_FOND User Value werte = A2 Temperature for Heated Seats - Rear Seats - Upper Body - Setting 2 Value (Default: 106º F)
FEM_BODY 3090 TEMP_LEHNE_STUFE_3_FOND User Value werte = AE Temperature for Heated Seats - Rear Seats - Upper Body - Setting 3 Value (Default: 116º F)
FEM_BODY 3090 TEMP_SITZ_STUFE_1_FOND User Value werte = 94 Temperature for Heated Seats - Rear Seats - Lower Body - Setting 1 Value (Default: 94º F)

For what it's worth, mine heat up quite quickly and I have to drop it to level 2 or 1.

Also, didn't read every post - but ECO Pro mode will reduce the heating output of the seats, so if you have it on level 3 [highest] and you're in ECO Pro mode it will not be as hot as the seats would be at the same level in say comfort or sport mode.

Thankfully we'll be back to the 70's this week and low 50's overnight, no more of this 37 degree BS! What the hell?! I've got a heated steering wheel now.. I thought.. useless, at first. Now: I've been living like a plebeian for the previous part of my life.

Fwiw, with 1700 miles now on the clock, both the steering wheel and seats heat up faster now. Guess they just needed to be broken in...

Kinda off topic but, is there any way to add heated seat in after market?
I wish I had that option, but it is not.

Hi,

You can recode the termperatures for each of the three levels for the seat bottom & seat back for the front and back seats (if you have them); not hard to do at all.

I have recoded my 2014 F30 front seats so that one of the settings provides alot of heat on my back and not much on the seat bottom -- great for a long drive!

Will be happy to provide how to, if you'd like, here's a post that may be helpful to you: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=763271

So, can you code the seats to go hotter than 116º?
