Electric steering.
So I have had a 325 xit wagon for 7 1/2 years and 132,000 miles. I am ready to trade it in, but I have worried about the negative reviews of the new electric steering.
On a recent four day trip I had a chance to rent an F 30, but when I got to the car it was an E 90. They upgraded me to one of the new 528's, no extra charge. The first day I drove it 200 miles, and with the new steering it just felt ordinary. With my own car, I routinely inflate to 4 PSI over the placard pressures, which gives me an extra 10,000 miles on each set of tires, since they don't wear just on the shoulders. The second day in the rental I did the same thing, inflating the tires to 39 PSI front, 42 rear. The car was transformed. It now had the classic BMW friskiness. It was willing to play. Now this was a car that I would buy. So is the so-called steering problem really a problem of matching steering and tires? Could the problem really be solved at any filling station air pump? I wonder what others think. |

I think the electric steering complaints are blown a bit out of proportion. I would not worry too much about it, electric steering is not going anywhere and soon enough every car will have it.

The F30 floaty soft suspension is a way bigger change than the electric steering difference. Steering on my msport f30 is great and really precise.
Oh, and I keep my tires at 38 psi when the recommended is 32 all around. |
