Apparently not....are you looking at the pictures directly previous in the thread? You can see both at the same time, it just depends on what you're viewing in the black display at the time.

Ok, so my question remains, does this rely on having HUD? What if you just have Nav and no HUD?

Sorry cant answer that because i have HUD as far as i can see in my setup you can either show it on the HUD or turn HUD off then it shows on the blackpanel display.

yup disabling hud in the idrive settings shows the nav for me on the display. Kinda cool, too bad you can only choose one or the other. I'd like to have both on.

In the UK think it only comes with professional media pack as this adds black panel and professional nav.

Look at his profile... he's in Canada, where there is no "Technology Package" - Navigation is part of the premium package and the HUD is a standalone option.

I can't say for sure but my assumption would be that if you have nav but no HUD, the navigation directions will just always display in the instrument cluster (rather than not at all). Just a guess though.

Yes, Canadian cars with Nav display instructions in the dashboard panel, just like the press picture. Saw it in action myself.

On US cars which come with the HUD as part of the tech pkg, you have to choose one or the other. I tried it earlier, if you have HUD nav enabled you don't get it in the dash, if you disable HUD nav you only get it in the dash.

I just tried this for the first time and I think the nav graphics look better on the black panel than on the HUD.

you are right. Aesthetics are much better but I'm not sure about how easy it will be to look at the instrument display continually.

I think I will keep it on the black panel when I'm wearing my (polarized) sunglasses.
