The factory quoted 0-60 mph times for the 2012 328i are 5.9 seconds (auto) and 5.7 seconds (manual)
The factory quoted 0-60 mph time for the 2012 335i is 5.4 seconds (auto and manual)

They really are. Never thought I'd have so much fun downshifting an automatic.

Seems that they are getting slower over the years.
07 335i was 5.0 0-60

The numbers I quoted are official factory #'s. Over the years, BMW has shown that it's conservative on the acceleration figures and real life test results (such as the one you quoted) are usually faster.

Hows it drive when in sport (and sport+) but not in manual (so more like "DS")?

I haven't toyed with to many auto box, but the 8AT seems to be having a good behavior! Probably one of the best AT i've seen... but i am not very knowledgable on the subject so dont take my words for it... furthermore i dont really like AT anyways...

For me, the focus is on the 6MT, it's straight forward and much more rewarding!
Simple and no fuss about it ... no wonder the video is so short... (by the way, the driver didn't do the synchro 1-2 that well ... over reving :P

AT is like DSLR - democratizing and making sport driving accessible to everyone by allowing them to skip fundamental steps... a bit too gatget-ery.
MT is like SLR - you have more merit knowing and working the machine, the original pleasurable/engaging experience.

Agreed.

My current F10 535i has the 'same' 8speed autobox. It's very very good....
....for an autobox that is.

And it suits the bigger 5 series very very well.I've never owned a BMW that drives/is as unsporty as my current 535i.
I almost NEVER use the paddles, not even downshifting. Gearchange is fast.
But there is NO involement whatsoever imo...
All my former BMWs (seven!) before my current F10 were MTs and the cars before the BMWs too(Impreza GTT 555, Audi S3 etc.)

I could have chosen the autobox again(which is probably remapped to suit the more sportiness of the 3er F30 vs the more comfy F10 5er) , it's an option for FREE(and we Dutch are like the Scotsmen on that part LOL) but I just chose the 6MT...again.

This video makes me want to get rid of the manual 335 and get a new 328i auto. Once the tuners get into that motor it's going to be sick. Sub 5 seconds to 60 with killer gas mileage.

Looks substantially faster on up-shifts than the 6-speed-auto in my X5. Really nice...sounds good too.

Unfortunately no. Most of the 335i there were sport line and manual transmission. But it's the same ZF 8HP auto transmission as in the 328i so expect to see it behave the same, just accelerate faster

Our F30 335i / 328i review is now up @ http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=643422

this is all good and great, but im only growing more concerned about slow the 335 seems (or the 328 just seems so much faster than before) ... either way the gap there has shrunk so much, i cant imagine how bmw would let that happen

dont get me wrong i drive a 335 and my next one will be as well but this is just wack ... even if it is for a yr or so until the "340." to be honest, i really just dont wanna wait that long haha

we better so more 0-60 tests in the low 5's or 5.0
