Talk me out of getting a model 3!

Hi, I put in a deposit for a model 3 before reveal. I'll probably get to configure the car in a few months but just wanted to see people's (non tesla fans) opinion of the car. I have a 2013 335i with MPPK and considering selling it and getting the model 3. I am only getting it for 2 main reasons.

1) 10.5k tax incentive
2) Free charging at work

I sat in it and it is a beautiful car. I'll be missing the HUD for sure.

Talk me out of it??

Read Tesla financials! They will be out of cash later this year unles they can pull off a huge capital raise.
No warranty coverage. Will get reorganized after chapter 11.
Jaguar IPace will be better anyway

Depends what your uses for the car are.

Are you doing a lot of DD miles?
Do you have where to recharge it often?
Will that be your only car?
Did you track your previous 335, will you want to do the same with the model 3?

There are tons of factors to consider.

If it's not your only car, then maybe I'd go and get it.
It has pretty decent straight of the line acceleration and would probably make a nice DD if you don't need to do lots of miles.

The only thing that I absolutely hate about the car is the interior, more specifically the screen.

I can't imagine not having the dash, hud or anything else in front of me, and having to look to my right to see data.

Another problem is all the digital controls (including things like wipers, wtf). Call me old fashioned, but having mechanical switches is soooo much better (and safer).

Tesla (and Musk) will definitely not go under that easily.
There's a lot of momentum going for them and worse thing that i can imagine happening for them is getting bought by a bigger company...

Get it. I traded an i3 for a 330e because of the lousy compliance over Houston's potholes. Most of my driving is short range and in all-electric, but I haul around a full ICE drivetrain that is mostly useless. If you can charge at work and range is adequate for your commute, I think it's a no-brainer with the incentives. Look carefully at whether you need any of the upgrades over the base model. They are pricy, but unlike BMW's 50% add-on to base for a useful car, the base car is perfectly adequate for a commuter.

Why? It's your car and it's your money. If you want it, get it. If you don't want it, don't get it. Why should we care?

Respectfully I must disagree, OP is not asking for opinions on colors but in at least a broad sense is seeking information, specifically about the Tesla. None of us have all the answer's and there is a wealth of knowledge among the Forums membership, makes sense to me to try to use that knowledge to make a better informed decision. Now if it was about colors then I'd be in total agreement with your post.

If you see it that way, that's fine. IMHO, I see "Talk me out of it" posts a bit differently. More so on a car that no one has driven yet, and can't really give accurate advice on.

Build quality. I heard the interior and build quality is a bit lacking. Especially coming from a BMW.

I agree with tex2370. Why should we care. Only place to get real info is at a Tesla site.

I could always say because I find it unattractive inside & out, but thats just a matter of my taste & has no value for the OP.

I had a deposit and just got refunded. I decided to wait until the company and the product reach some steady state. Loved test driving the model S. And totally "get it" with the direct (no transmission ) connection to the wheels, and the low center of gravity. However, if Tesla is not willing to lease me the vehicle, I am out, due to the financial stability reasons others have mentioned..the other factor to consider is that if they produce 5,000 cars a week as they hope, there will be so many in the roads in 2 years. It won't be as special any more.
But it is a great, revolutionary product for sure. I decided to lease an M3 with manual transmission while I wait for the next EV.

Don’t order it. Tesla may be out of cash by end of Q3. If they don’t raise capital they may be done.

That seems like a really petty reason not to buy a car. I've been driving for 46 years and never had that need. Sure you could some day but you can say that about a lot of potential scenarios.

Not surprising considering Tesla's past in this regard. And the fact that Musk decided they would bypass a step moving into production does not help. But many Tesla buyers do not worry about this, they want to be early adopters. By the way how many of us have said not to buy a BMW in it's first year of production? To be fair, those problems are not as severe as those experienced by Telsa owners.

With a different car, the conversation wouldn't be about a glovebox.

(Another reservation holder here, the car most likely going to a new driver in the family.)
