I have the exact same issue and my shop foreman says it's the big mirror. This is definitely not normal. It could be a design flaw.I'm thinking about finding a way to complain to BMW.

*** UPDATE ***
Alright, so I brought the car back this past Tuesday. I dropped it off at 9am and received a call at 5pm saying that they ordered the wrong windshield. The windshield was for an X3. Apparently, the model # is very similar. The right one arrived this morning (Wed). I went to pick the car up this afternoon and guess what?? The wind noise has reduced quite a lot but it is still noticeable. HOWEVER, they messed up the right A pillar cover during the installation. (It's scratched on several areas). Luckily, the A pillar cover can just be snapped out without touching the dashboard. Anyway, this has been a nightmare!!! Again, I wish I would have left this whole wind noise issue ALONE!!! |

That was funny! Lol On a serious note, you are right. That was such an easy job and yet the messed up 100 times. The problem is that Fields BMW own all the BMW dealers around me. I'm terrified that they may mess up the A pillar cover installation and screw something else. |

Same issue here~ I have scheduled an appiontment for this Saturday. Hopefully they car fix it without replacing my windshield. I can almost sure the noise is coming from the windshield. Even the tech from BMW is saying no way the wind noise is from the doors with double sealed on it.

Here's something I noticed the other day - when the HVAC is in recirc mode, it sounds a lot like wind noise emanating from the vicinity of the A-pillars. When switching back to normal fresh air mode the noise disappeared. I assume it's an odd resonance in the ducts. My car is dead silent otherwise. Worth checking if your car is noisy?

I noticed the wind noise. It's louder than my old G37.
I'd just leave it alone. If I care about a quiet cabin that much I'd get a Lexus.

I own a G37 as well. Normally u hear a wind noise on the freeway cruising ard 70mph+, but my F30 happens at local ard 45mph - 50mph, and it is hard to be ignored.

I would like to bet that the wind noise is not from the windshield or the side view mirrors. It is a crappy cabin design. the vehicle was made poorly as far as keeping wind noise down. The other day I had the radio off and was at a stop light, windows up, and I can totally hear everything going on outside. Just think of it as a cheap hotel room where the walls are super thin and you can hear people doin the bump nasty

Before you let service start monkeying with your car I highly recommend you test drive another car (or two) and test for same noise. Seriously, you may end up with a nightmare with these BMW techs trying to resolve what is probably just a minor annoyance.

If you find a way to complain, do let me know. They need to know this is an issue all over. Responded about my experience on this on your thread too.

My friend has a F30 328i. Did a test drive on his, and it's quiet like my G. No wind noise til it reachs 80MPH+, the noise is way less noticeable than mine.

Anyone tried one of those smoke machines that they use when searching for water leaks?

It's seems like BMW quality control is none existent in respects of wind noise, almost as if it's a none issue for them when cars leave the factory.
The fact that the same models of some cars have different levels of wind noise, some none, some major, i evidence of this. My driver side window has very noticeable wind noise at anything above 55-60mph. |
