Really? That is unbelievable... You are one very loyal BMW fan. I think I would be put off the brand if I had that experience. But so far personally my car, and my dads 03 5series have been pretty good, though they are both the NA inline 6 motors.

So many problems? I won't bother asking you to quantify the statement, however it is worth pointing out the remarkably few threads on any issue to do with the N20 are not likely to be outweighed with, "gee, I drove my car today and it did just what is was supposed to do."

FWIW I've had mine for almost 2 years and 28,000km and it's been just fine for every single km of driving. I tend to find people far more unreliable than cars more often than not.

This thread should probably be shifted to the N20 subforum also.

Add me to the list of low pressure fuel pump failure. 46.5K miles.

Everything I have just read here is 100% incorrect. The HPFP issues was only a NORTH AMERICAN problem due to high levels of detergents in our gasoline. In Europe or anywhere else around the world HPFP issues do not exist. PERIOD

All this fuss about FI and DI making fuel pumps more troublesome are completely absurd. Sorry to come out like this but this topic has been covered many times already and if you don't believe me go ahead and search it. Btw if this was a big problem the forums would be flooded with "HPFP issues" just like it was 5 years ago

OP, good luck and I'm sure you will have ur bimmer ready to roll and the fun back to normal.

Cheers

10500 miles so far and zero fuel pump issues or otherwise on my current 428i.

Yes, I can't believe it either. However even with all the problems I've had with past BMWs, nothing drives like one and that keeps me coming back.

My 428i has performed flawlessly, now at 12,000 miles. I truly think this is one of BMW's best models

Hey its doing better than my Wife's Volt - it died with 7 miles on the odo. It was a real POS for the first 6 months due to failed parts from the factory but has been fine since.

Could you briefly describe why the detergents cause this failure?

My benz c250 had a fuel pump replaced with the first year of ownership, it happens with all brands that have a DI engine and a turbo. No big deal as long as its handled appropriately. Although I hope it doesnt happen with my F36.

Go on the HPFP FAQ section, it's a sticky. Clearly explains it

Sorry no it's on the e90 section. HPFP was never a big issue like it was years back. Bmw took care of it. Problems now days are more isolated

There's no way in the world we can offer any meaningful assistance remotely. This is not a common issue as you might have found. Things break.
