Could be interference from other devices. Its a very sensitive system. Try locking and unlocking with each fob a few times see if that helps

Did you have any regulatory issues importing your X3 from the year 2108?

you just have to dodge the robotic speed cops in order to hit 88mph. if you can do that, you're gonna see some serious shit.

This has happened to me several times. Once I came back to my car in the morning to find the trunk up. Another time it popped open as I walked away from it. Yes, folks, it could be my fob, but I don't really think it gets enough pressure applied on it while it is in my front pocket.

Today was the last straw. I came back to my car, which was in an underground lot, to find the driver's window completely open. Now, the trunk will pop open with a very brief press on the fob button. But to open the window, it would need to be pressed continuously for about five seconds. I can't believe it's the fob.

This happened to me a few times (just happened today). But when the fob is in my coat pocket, it never happens. I'm pretty sure its the sensitive buttons on the fob.

I brought my 430i Coupe in to dealer last week and no one knew what I was talking about. I left my car and they called later that day and said there was a TSB regarding the issue. They programmed it so I must press open doors and then open trunk, we'll see if that solves the issue.

I had this happen several times on my ‘18 340. The last time it happened I found the trunk open in a rain storm and called the dealer. I just got it back and they said they performed a software upgrade. Part of this upgrade requires that I press unlock on the key fob before pressing the trunk release. It never seemed to be the key fob but I’m hoping it’s resolved now. I’ll let you know.

The trunk on my 2015 F32 randomly opens when I wash the car and have a sprayer pointed in the area of the rear license plate. It's happened to me about 10 times, always in the same way.

I took the car to a BMW stealership, and gave them a copy of BMW - SI B51 30 16 Tailgate Unintentionally Opens.

The fix in that SI basically to re-program the remote to be a two button process. Their dimwitted assumption is owners are accidentally pressing the button to open the trunk.

So, today I washed the car. Guess what happened when I was standing at the back of the car, spraying water in the general direction of the rear license plate.

You guessed it, trunk popped open by itself.

Electronics has always been a weak link for BMW.

Unhappy X3 trunk keeps opening randomly

Got the new X3 recently & have noticed the trunk to openly randomly. This is scary when you are out on a holiday only to come back and notice your car trunk is open. Any idea how to fix this? Has occured 4 times so far.

^ I had this happening with my X3 too, until I stopped carrying the fob in my pants pockets.

Yes, go to dealer and have them program FOB to 2 key presses for trunk open.

I got a replacement electronic part installed (sensor?), and it resolved the problem for me. Since the replacement was installed, it's never opened by itself. It's a little harder to trigger the opening with a kick, but I'd much rather have that than get everything in my trunk stolen.

The dealer noted
Connected battery charger, ran ISTA test, checked air for PUMA measures, found measure 63379954-06. Part backordered Germany.
PUMA is their name for a database of issues that various dealers around the world have resolved.

Yep, we've had this, once with the car outside and once in the garage. Probably happens when my wife starts rooting through her purse and the fob is in there.

The fob is not the problem.

I had my fob reprogrammed by the stealership per BMW's SI to fix random trunk opening.

Guess what?

Trunk still opens by itself.

Deck Lid Opening

Just had a client today complaining of this deck lid opening concern after i removed some dents for him. He had it at the dealer 6 times, No fault found. As soon as he closed it, it would open on it's own 10 seconds later. I turned in the deck lid stops, one turn on each stop. Turned them in one turn and closed the lid. It's been closed all day and usually popped open each time after closing. If not closing properly they will open again. Try it, worked for one unhappy owner.

Sometimes, when I hold the door handle to open my 2018 430i, the truck pops open at the same time. This is an annoying issue, that doesn't seems to have a fix. So, I keep the trunk lock on in the glovebox to prevent it from happening.
