Canada? Fuck that, haveing a loaner for oil changes and service is exactly why people buy luxury cars! Hell I expect Starbucks, drinks and snacks at any Bmw dealership or I bitch!!

They used to be free at my dealership but they just recently started charging a flat amount regardless of the length of time you have the car. Something like $25 IIRC, which they say goes towards gas so you don’t have to return it with a full tank.

I feel like they're setting themselves up for a fall framing it that way. I'm not one to take advantage like that, but many would hear that and think of it as a pre-paid $25 tank of gas. I'm assuming those who would take advantage are the entire reason for that fee in the first place, too.

Another question: with Americans getting fatter and suvs taking over.....do you see the sedan falling to sport crossover vehicles or not even being sold in the US?

The ownership experience in so far as how I have been treated by dealerships and how seamless and 'nice' each experience has been, definitely plays a part in my loyalty to the brand. Like the attention to detail that BMW engineers pay to the cars themselves, a lot of thought has gone into the overall dealership experience and it shows. When I bring my wife's car in for service at VW, I definitely feel like I am slumming it. The whole operation seems pretty bush league in comparison.

You have to pay for a loaner? Brutal.

Pretty sure they started charging back in 2014. I would never pay for a loaner. They will drive me to work and pick me up whenever its done. My work is at least a 35 minutes commute.

Oh another thing I wanted to add. The 330ixdrive gave me 13 mpg for the duration I had the car which is probably not accurate but was still low compared to my diesel in the city. The loaner had 132 miles on the odometer.

Not even close. The M5 yes, the rest no.
8 series has received some positive feedback from reviewers and car journalists as well, if it matters. I take car reviews with a grain of salt these days. Don't get me wrong, I love reading and watching them, but more for the entertainment value of watching people drive cool cars.

There are certain car magazines who’s reviews I respect because we share the same dynamic requirements in a car. I think some don’t like them because the reviews don’t confirm their own biases.

It has nothing to do with bias toward certain makes or models. Like most people, in the past I'd base my interest in certain cars on various reviews and road tests I'd seen or read, only to be underwhelmed when I actually drove the car myself. On the flip side I've also been pleasantly surprised with cars that received luke warm reviews by the magazines and journalists (like the f32 4-series). At some point it became evident to me that our impression of different cars is highly subjective, so I don't place much emphasis on reviews. I trust my own impressions. That said, I do enjoy the reviews, just because I love reading and chatting about cars, and one can get a good idea of what's available.

Just got an '18 340 x drive m sport as a loaner. With adaptive m suspension. Very fun to drive and good engine note. Does not have m sport brakes and that is the only knock on it and those terrible spotty led head lights. Man that is terrible.

Yeah, the 330i xdrive is spendy, for sure.

On the other hand, there's not a lot of completion for a RWD-based AWD car, with near 50/50 weight distribution, great sport seats, and an (underrated) 248 hp engine paired to a well programmed 8 speed ZF auto. Where else you gonna find that?

The LED headlights are great if you just adjust them up a bit -- and the fog lights cast a nice wide beam.

The biggest downfalls of the 330i are the endless squeaks and rattles, the floaty standard suspension, and the ultra shitty run flat tires. But those things can be fixed (although they shouldn't have to be, at this price).

Received an 2018 X1 28i. Basic and punchy. Love the adjustable middle armrest. Like old vws and older Audi's used to have.

I had an exact same loaner and it felt very basic and much less responsive even in sport mode than my 328i. It didn't matter which buttons I pressed, it just wasn't willing to get going. Interior wise, it really felt plasticky. I like my accord interior better than X1's.

I had an X1 loaner, for a week, too. It felt pretty cheap. The stereo was probably the worst stereo I've heard in 20 years. Worst of all, I got stuck in rush-hour with it and it was INFURIATING. They really fucked up the programming with the transmission -- car was super jerky when trying to crawl along in slow stop and go traffic. My head kept bouncing off the rock-hard head rest and I felt like I had a mild concussion by the time I got back to the dealership.
