Older iPod it's probably not compatible with your system, if you've got another music device I suggest transfer the music and try to do that.

I also ran into the problem of the older generation ipods not hooking up to my BMW. The current IPod i stuck in my car is from 2005, 80gb. I found that the cable was at fault!
