BMW OEM hud retrofit now available

I guess this things available for purchase now... at least through this ebay vendor. Anybody getting one of these? Seems kinda pricey.

It may be a HUD but it's not a retrofit of the one that is built-in if factory-ordered.

Yeah... I didn't say it was. Retrofitting is adding something to your existing vehicle. Look it up.

Over the years I have noticed that eBay seller is usually overpriced. It may be cheaper elsewhere.

I think he's questioning your use of the word 'OEM' ... but the ad does say OEM so...

This is pretty cool. I'd be kinda interested in looking into this. I wonder what type of modifications are required to the dash though. I thought these things were mounted in a recessed area of the dash, no?

Lol your title says "BMW OEM hud retrofit now available" so yes you did say that.

Anyway I've heard this thing sucks, and it doesn't even integrate with your factory navi. This is an accessory not a retrofit.

That thing looks so freaking cheap. How BMW could even think that lives up to their name and standards I will never understand.

Anyway, its $381 from FCPEuro.

OEM as in original equipment? At least that's how I interpreted it but after looking at the definition for OEM... I imagine lots of people would be confused.

Regardless, the point I guess I was trying to make is officially licensed BMW product.

Hmmm.. that part number (62302361627) doesn't come up in the two biggest BMW part databases online (realoem and partsale.eu). Maybe I got the part number wrong...

This is seriously OEM?

RealOEM hasn't been updated in about 6 months. etk.cc is updated pretty much monthly.

It is a genuine product. It was just launched in Europe. If you go look at the google play store the app for this product is already launched and downloadable. It is a retrofit for people who wants a HUD but didn't order it from the factory. One advantage is that it can be updatable unlike the standard built in HUD.

I think whats throwing me for a loop is that when someone says 'OEM' i think its the same part as what is installed at the factory. But this is clearly not. Otherwise, a new dash and a new windshield would come included in this kit

Is there a precedent for this? I can't think of another BMW OEM feature that has two completely different parts - i.e. i'm doing an OEM rear camera retrofit and its the same exact parts as what comes out of the factory as if i had ordered it as an option during production.

wtf...

Typically retrofit is interpreted in the car community as adding an OEM option that was not included when the car was built; this is dash-mounted HUD unit from BMW, but it is not the integrated unit from the factory that one would retrofit. It's sort of like saying I retrofitted an LED bulb by simply plugging it into where a factory halogen was; yes, it is by definition correct, since there was NOT an LED bulb there before, but again from the car-mod perspective we tend to look at retrofit as installing an NBT nav when you didn't have one before, a.k.a a factory option that the vehicle didn't come with.

I know it seems silly, but the first thing I thought when I read OEM retrofit was the hidden in-dash one, not a BMW made aftermarket unit that just sits on the dash.

well... what you're talking about is technically available as well. It looks pretty unpleasant to accomplish. LOL
