Changing Ambient LEDs in doors

Has anyone changed the ambient lighting led's before? I've been searching but no luck so far. My thought is to remove one if the led units from the door, disassemble and swap the led's to colors of my liking. If successful the other three doors. The worst case, I have to buy a new part from BMW. $25 for that one.

Any thoughts, pictures, links?

Agreed. When my dealer needed to replace the LED strip (fit and finish wasn't the best...) they had to replace the entire door card instead because the LED strip was mounted and then the ends were melted off in the factory, which didn't leave too much room for it to be filed off and then screwed back in with a new one.

This sounds like I might be the one to try and figure it out. There isn't anything more than edge emitting fiber optic fed by a miniature LED fiber source. I have even pondered the idea of replacing the fiber itself with a longer piece allowing for easier mounting of the LED source behind the door card. Ill check it out and let you guys know what I find. Also if anyone has any other thoughts please keep them coming.
