very nice car, now if Jaguar doesn't screw it up and it handles while having a decent amount of power (400 HP/300-400 TQ) then I would consider it. Im not a fan of the F30 and the 4 series is yet to be seen. And of course the M versions are soon to be released, this Jag has a lot on its plate from BMW alone.

I'm sure Sterling Moss would be grateful that the Indians kept Jag alive.

My mum likes her yagwar

I rather have an aston

I personally don't like the interior of the new 3 but everything else about it is cool

I'd stay within bmw or porsche, maybe a caddy

I do think MB makes good engines, but that is about it

... maybe all this sport compact sedan competition will drive bmw to beyond udm

On the bahn I see a lot of smart cars and benz s klass, but around the towns all I see are bimmers, but in Italia all I see are fiats and audi's and an occasional rari or lambo

I have yet to see an ats on the road... it seems when bmw isn't making sales, mb is...

If they can make a baby Jag any where near as gorgeous as the F-type and give it some fun driving characteristics, I'd be all over it!

No, he was talking about getting to the sales numbers Audi has. 20 years ago Audi was hurting bad in the US. So much so that they almost pulled out all together.

Yup, that is because the XJ weighs almost the same as 5 series due to aluminum construction.

It's so sill yto read these article with some executive fomr a car company saying "we want to compete with the other car but we won't lose the key characteristics that make a (insert Jag, Lexus, BMW, Infiniti, Mercedes) a (repeat previously mentioned brand).

Look, they're all smallish sedans with 4 wheels. Everyone has premium audio, the ability to have AWD, navigation, etc. There is no groundbreaking factor to be discovered that will catapult one brant into the lead. They market to their own demographics with some degree of crossover. The "identity" of the car is not going to make it better or make me want one.

Fact is, you sell cars by giving people more for their money. As of yet, nobody is doing that. Instead, they collude so everyone get to protect their margins.

Examples:

-does any vehicle in the luxury sport sedan segment have a real leather-wrapped dashboard? No. They're all that foamy textured plastic/rubber stuff that.

- what's the horsepower range among all the cars in the segment? Something like 184hp in the 320i up to 320hp in the ATS?

- do any cars have AWD standard, or sport suspension standard, or navigation/premium audio standard?

The competitive advantage comes from not compromising on performance, and giving people value for money. Until we see that, the hierarchy and the share of sales volume won't change much.

There is the XJ,XF, XK, and F-Type. They are all stunning cars, and have tons of character. The latter cannot be said about any current BMW.

And do people seriously not realize that the picture is a render? I don't even think a prototype has been spotted yet.
This post is dead on!!! Aside from the 1 & 3 Series current Jags came out ahead of 5 and 7 series in a few car comparisons. I remember a reading about it in C&D where they raved about the way it drove and it's steering. BMW really needs to take it to another level on all their models.

Also what is BMW waiting for to switch to aluminum frames? Audi has been doing it since the late 90's and Jaguar has done it since the early 2000's. Some of these new BMWs like the 5 and 7 are porkers and can benefit from aluminum frames. BMW has experience with aluminum with the Z8 so i can only thing it's a money issue.

Funny how all 3 Series owners get agitated. Of course always the same title comes. There are just clear icons in each segment and most come from germany.
  • VW Golf
  • BMW 3 Series
  • Mercedes-Benz S Class
  • Porsche 911

That is just the normal cycle of life. The list of 3 Series rivals is increasing. Plus to Infiniti Q50, Lexus IS, Cadillac ATS, now Jaguar is to come. Do not forget the Alfa Romeo Giullia. This was the car before BMW. At the beginning the BMW was called "Alfa Romeo from Germany". Now I guess, if Alfa get the 159 successor right, it will be called the "BMW from Italy".

Anyway, unless the 3 Series is not a 335i or M3, the car is worthless. Same goes for all the rivals.

From what I understand BMW isn't using aluminum, because they are spending their resources on Carbon Fiber. This choice is smarter in the long run, because aluminum cars in this segment will be outdated the instant BMW rolls out the carbon fiber frames. Supposedly the next 7 series will be the first series model to make widespread use of carbon fiber (see: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=652528).

I am sure it will be a great car which I will look at seriously. Like all manufacturers, a Russian Doll product.

The likes of BMW, Mercedes and Audi will not give up the ghost. The Germans are very competitive and a minnow like Jaguar may not present them with too much of a problem. The Jag will most probably be more expensive (just look at the F Type) and be a niche model in comparison. Fine by me.

German cars are not that reliable and have lots of problems. Their perceived quality is great (with lots of soft touch plastics etc) but they are nowhere near the Japenese in the reliability stakes. Also remember, Korea is rising and how.

But truth be told, it's all in the name.

Well that makes sense and I hope they hurry cause these cars are getting bigger, heavier and pricier.

I would probably be ordering one of these right now if it was out instead of the F30 I ordered. I took a serious look at the xf but it was just too big.
