Neither does the ceramic/leather that has a much better feel than the plastic F8x shifter.

I just do not get the allure of the M3/M4 shifter
Everybody has different tastes, that's all. Shit, I say that about Alcantara in the car. I find it unappealing.

No one has said it cannot be done as its a M3/M4 Shifter in a different external case and it’s been done multiple times for over 2 years.

Heck, I put a F10 Ceramic Shifter in a F30 a year ago, so that part has been done as well.

I just don’t get the appeal having used all these units.

Was there any coding required for the F10 shifter to work? I'm debating between this and going carbon fiber for my shifter.

No coding needed for even exchange of 2TB Sports Automatic Transmission between F3x or F1x.

Though not tested (no need for me) I would suspect the cheaper Standard Automatic Transmission would also work without coding.

The external housing is a whole different matter, as detailed earlier in post 54.

As mentioned no coding needed but it's work since you will need to take both shifters apart to use the top plate.

I got lucky on price, but you can get a f80/82 shifter for about 250$ on eBay

I'm working on getting the error message of.

Are you working with anyone or just searching through the system via ESys?

Good to hear. Thanks for taking the jump and working on it. Hope to hear that it's successful and finally bring the knowledge to the forums.

When you succeed you start something new.

But that's great info you posted have to keep looking
Funny thing is, as more people figure it out, more people who were against the idea change their mind and do it for their car too :

You seem to know of a flood of people able to accomplish this...which is not supported by facts in this thread.

I would point out to anyone that thinks they might experiment with this, eBay has 20% of coupon for purchases up until 8PM PT this evening. Coupon DSPRING20 which would cut cost of shifter signicantly.

20% on everything? Seems they'd be losing money.

You care if they lose money?

I’ve already purchased 3 items on 2 different accounts.

Just curious if any change as we move into April?

I will also warn you that I ran into an issue this week that you will as well as you moved a M5 shifter into a F3x.

If your Dealer has to do any repairs, ISTA will throw a fit with this unit in the car. It will not let them code replacement parts etc or update istep if needed.

You need your old automatic shifter (the model that came in your car, be it the standard shift or 2TB Sports Shifter) , that is coded in your WO in BMW Computers and seeing a F8x 2MK or whatever the M5 uses will stop everything in its tracks.

You need to reinstall the original and unencode any changes you have made prior to every time you take it into the Dealer for any servicing/issues.

Thanks for the info.

As for me no changes yes. Been working on some other projects and haven't had time to really play around with the shifter yet.

Something that also game to my attention is that the X5M uses the same still shifter and does not have a DTC.

The answer could be there as well but that would require coding.
