My guess is you won't find the setting to disable that (or if you do, it won't work). The issue is if it's a regulatory thing, the easiest way for BMW to prevent a lawsuit from someone during it off and backing over someone is to prevent you from turning it off.

We just bought an Audi SQ5, and there are a lot of settings in coding that no longer function for that same reason (IE amount of time you can keep your hands off the wheel while the vehicle is driving itself). It's "the man" who's dictating it.

I'm not saying that we'll definitely find, but there are other features which are disabled by default in the US due to regulations, which can be enabled through coding.

I am joining the frustration club here and once again confirming that on F36, MY2018, the default is Rear View. I am hoping to find a solution, as in 90% of my everyday situations, the surround view is more useful than the rear view.

The only times it defaults to surround view is when PDC is activated automatically when approaching an obstacle in front of you. Even if i push the button when approaching a parking spot, then shift to reverse, it goes back to the rear view camera.
Correct! That is my observation as well!

And one additional question - any way (e.g. through coding) to increase the distance/speed at which the PDC activates itself when driving forwards? I am normally already in the bushes in front maneuvering when it goes on to tell me I'm dangerously close!

I was hoping to reach the end of this thread and see a resolution. I fear it could be regulatory, but hope some of you brilliant folks find a way around it. SO frustrating!
Anyone have success?

Has anyone figured this out? I wish it would do a split screen of BOTH bird's eye and rear view... that would actually be the MOST helpful view anyways

I think that's probably not supported by the car, but I'm hoping someone figures out how to code top-down as default.

My 2014 435 appears to retain the surround view setting when I put it in reverse, whether it's straight from park after starting the car or if I shift into reverse from drive.
