Steering Wheel Creaking/Squeaking Noise
Hey guys, I own a 335i sports line and just noticed whenever i turn my steering wheel left or right I hear a creaking noise. The noise is soft but definitely noticeable. I ve researched over here and noticed that some other people had the same issue. Is there any fix to this issue? Thanks

Yup, I got that a few times. Just adjust the steering wheel column and pull it out/push it back in. It took me a while to figure out where the squeaking is coming from! At particular lengths of the steering wheel column, may be an O-ring or something is causing the problem.

Thanks man for your help, let me check that out. I drove it today and did not hear anything. I guess it starts making a sound when your re turning the wheel completely on the left or right. So for you the sound is gone after you did that?

I experienced this issue on my e92 and after researching I found that the issue is due to the brake sensor in the wheels touching when you turn the wheel. Nothing to worry about.

This was happening in my last car (2010 Camaro) looked to be rubbing the rubber boot at the bottom (I have steering wheel all the way down). So I sprayed a quick shot of lubricant right there and all problems were solved

I had the same thing in my E90 early on, back in 2005. Was most annoying as it was quite loud. It either went away or I had it fixed. Cant remember.

Any real fix? I'll push the column in a little...my wife noticed it too, and she has the column in all the way. So I think it's independent of the column.

yeah mine went away once it started raining heavily here...I wonder if it's something in the exterior, not interior?

Apparently my "thrust arm bushings" weren't prepped correctly from the factory. They're on a 3 week backorder, just playing the waiting game now.

The steering wheel is a sensitive instrument and it is not a door handle. Once I let a big guy sit in the driver's seat of my 5 series. As he exited it, you could actually see the entire wheel bending and twisting as he put his 350 lb weight on the steering wheel to exit the car. |

No I haven not taken it to the dealer yet, been busy lately. Well with music on you cant hear it but its quite noticeable when music is turned off. I tried adjusting the steering wheel but the sound is still there. You better take it to the dealer to check it out and see whats the issue. Lot of people have mentioned this problem here on the threads

Same here with 335i 2012 Apr.
I think it is related to VSS. It sounds like out of oil gear noise. I went to dealer with this issue and they completely replaced steering wheel core(rod). The replacement did somewhat improvement for a month but it came back. Currently I send my car back to the dealer for this issue. I will post it if I get new treatment on this.

I had the creaking/moaning issue on my 335i.
Dealer took steering wheel out, greased specific parts, and everything is fine. Parts weren't replaced. It was a simple fix and no issues now.

Just make sure as $hit you can duplicate the issue once the SA sits in the car with you (or have a tech drive along with you, which is what I did). You have to book that ahead of time, and usually, I've noticed you'll get better preference at the dealer you purchased from...

I guess I am bringing this thread back alive, but I noticed it only on one side. When I turn to the left its the amazing BMW ultimate driving machine I originally purchased. When I turn to the right its NOT GOOD.
The right turn makes noise at about 1/8th of a turn until 3/4 turned and the entire time to the right its rougher, almost like there is dirt or something rubbing, but it is inconsistant and not at all when turning to the left which boggles my mind and makes me think it has something to do with the 0010100100001100 of the eletric steering. I live close to a dealer so I am going to go there and ask them to do a couple of your suggestions, but did anyone notice the problem on one side only? |
