Lower Displacement Future 335i/435i Engines

To some, this would be depressing, but if done right, I think it could be great. For example, if this technique of combining a supercharger and a turbo was used on a 2.5 liter 5 cylinder engine, it would probably outperform the current N55. Immediate power delivery that doesn't fade sounds exciting to me. See article below and share your thoughts... (and I'm not saying BMW should copy Volvo, they should do better, much better)

vw had 1.4L twincharger back in 2006.
but it's discontinued because its too complex and too expensive for vw to continue making.

Not to mention the HUGE oil consumption that accompanied this engine.

(In my ideal world, using the current N55) I think BMW could spend their huge development budget on squeezing the most out of multi-point fuel injection, making the block and internals lighter; all leading to much better efficiency and subsequently better fuel consumption figures and performance. Coupled with spending some budget on development of lightweight body panels/seats/interior/chasis and you've got a winning formula.
