My 2008 6 speed manual 335xi hooks up and has no problems with traction and wheel spin when I drop the clutch at almost any sane RPM level so I would assume my 2013 335XI 8 speed automatic coming in October should have no problem hooking up at 2000 to 4000 RPM. I am anxious to try it out when it arrives in a few months

Launching that awd is gonna be tons of fun. Plant you right in your seat. I just wish the f30's came with launch control, so we can play around and set it up how we want.

How did you get such an accurate measurement?

Someone needs to mount some drag radials and see how they hookup.

With just a tune, drag radials, and some e85, sub 4sec is possible.

What does the DS stand for? Are you guys paddle shifting? I'm planing on going to the track this Thursday night.

"DS" is the AT in "sport" mode. Just move the gear lever to the left.
It will be in DS/sport mode. It will hold gear to shift at higher rpm.
And, this mode is automatic.

While in that mode, lever moved the left, you can then activate "manual" mode by simply using the paddles or the lever.
So, move the lever to the left, it's in DS auto, pull the lever or paddle, it goes into manual mode.

Let us know how you do at the track.
Try using DS auto mode, and then try doing the shifts manually. Don't forget to set driver mode to 'sport" for the more responsive throttle. I prefer it, others don't. For me I really like the responsiveness and it feels more linear to me. Comfort and Eco throttle is kinda bland.
It'll be interesting to see what times and speeds you get between the two.
Also, if you can get enough runs, try shifting at different rpm, like around 6K instead of at or near red line. These engines have great torque, but it dies well before red line. Some with 1 series cars say you can get quicker times by shifting well before red line. I can't speak to that as I've never timed my 135i.

If you can get some video that would be great too.

Kinda disappointed. Best of the night was a 13.6 @101. Only ran 4 times :

13.7
13.8
13.9
13.6

I couldn't get off the line, but I'm not sure why. Could be wheel spin, but I didn't hear it. Just seemed to dog out from the line. Heres what I did each run:

Sport +, DS 1400rpm launch auto shift
Sport +, DS 1800rpmL auto shift
All trac off, DS 2200rpmL paddle shift round 6k, but too early a couple times
All trac off, DS 3000rpmL paddle shift round 6k

I can show slips later.

As per Ignition for the 8 speed auto,

Turn off DSC/DTC
Put the car in Manual Sport mode
Hold the brake and rev up to 2000 rpm,
Let the break go and hold on!

Cheer's Folks!

Can 2012 335i be coded to add launch control? What rpm does it hold?

Only saw a youtube video of a 328i LC which seemed to set at 2600rpm?

I doubt it, but I could be wrong, other people feel free to chime in...it started in 2014, and as another owner said, the sweet spot is at 1800 RPM. Mine is Xdrive, so it could be different on RWD..

Yes the sweet spot is between 1800 and 2000, that's my experience at the 1/4 mile strip anyway.

I was curios about the actual factory Launch Control rpm, which for 328i seems to be 2600. I'd assume 335i to be lower. Any 2014 335i owners can chime in?

MY2014 328iX 8AT DOES have LC. The flag comes up to indicate this as well.
Procedure:

Drive for appx. 6 mins
Sport+
Shift lever to left (DS), do not use M shift mode
Firmly press+hold brake pedal
Floor gas (past click)
Flag comes up (under speedo)
Release brake and hold on to the wheel!

(2014 and above )

My 14 335xi definitely has LC (with the little flag and all).

Like may others have listed:

only thing I would add is that the engine has to be driven for at least 10km and the engine has to be warm enough.

If you are going to try LC it may take a couple attempts to get it right. Make sure you hold the brake down hard and slam the throttle. Its a little counter intuitive at first.

Can you confirm what rpm is the factory LC set at?

Yes, coded mine.
Launches at +- 2500RPM with the little flags on the right cluster corner (Extended cluster), very sweet!

But with RWD, wheel still spins more than I like, which ios why I'll go with 20", 275/30. May add an LSD also to help.
