My friend had one as his very first car. Mother totaled it taking it to the store in the snow. Turned out to be a VERY costly wreck.

Yeah, that could get habit forming - time to add websites to the 'people places and things'.

And I think it is funny that after all that they left the speakers in it (and a full sized spare w/ a 5th forged wheel).

Do you want an investment (often a risky gamble with automobiles) or something to drive?

I drive what I own. The pleasure for me is driving the ultimate driving machine, not looking at a slightly used one.

To each his own. In 100 years the M3 will be an oddity, but if looking at it gives people pleasure, more power to it.

Cool car but never understood the desire to buy a new car, never drive it, and wait more than 20 years to double your money (without considering insurance or any maintenance).

Also would never considering buying a super low mileage car.

Same as the people who buy collectible toys and never take them out of the packaging.

$50,000 (what the car was new in 1995) would be worth over $300,000 just investing in the s&p 500. He should have enjoyed the car and invested what he instead spent on other cars to drive.

But to each his own!

Thanks for sharing. It's missing the rear spoiler. Glad to see that Porsche isn't the only German car manufacturer with something from 95 worth double now what it cost then.
Those hating on the car or the owner- do you really think the owner needed an investment if he bought cars he never drove? Could he have made more? Sure. Did he need to? Apparently not.

If the car had been driven, I would agree.

That's losing a lot of earning potential for just having the privilege of looking at an M3 lightweight in your garage for 20 years.

I didn't see any hate, just people that wouldn't do the same. Looking at a car in my garage for 20 years and not wanting to drive it doesn't make sense to me but as I think everyone said, to each their own.

Looks like the rear spoiler might be packaged up and included in with the car. Just hasn't been installed.

Regardless, I don't see anything wrong with preserving a piece of motorsport history. It would make a great addition to the BMW Welt Museum.

As a European with our E36 with S engines, i really don't see this as very special.
I appreciate the uniqe original package with about zero milage and the mint condition.
I guess it was an investment, i can appreciate it.
The E36 i really have fond memories with, a nononsense car.

I must admit that I love time-capsule cars like this, even though they sadly never had a moment of fun.

Glad that this car exists in a preserved state, a great opportunity for the very well heeled BMW collector, and for rest of us to enjoy in pictures.

For me I'd rather have a M4GTS or a P GT3 for the same money.

Actually emailed my friend at corporate. This thing belongs in the museum at this point - I'd never spend the money on a time capsule I could never drive. Would much rather get one w some miles on it and enjoy it a bit.

I agree with you.

And if BMW still sold all these parts that make it 'special', if you owned a white M3 coupe, you could easily turn it into one of these for much less money.

It's basically a dressup up US M3 coupe, with some Euro M3 GT goodies thrown at it. Besides the most important thing, the EU powerplant.

Yes - this would be great in the museum in Spartanburg.

I was talking with a buddy the other day, and the conversation drifted to the Ford GT. In order to buy it now, you have to promise to drive it, not "preserve" it. Interesting........
